Interested About A Dual Price List ?

Featured Replies

I was wondering why we don't have a list of shops, restaurants, tourist attractions etc known for their dual price policy.

I'm not really interested in debating about the why and the how and I can have a regular sleep at night, thanks.

I think it would be only fair to have such a list posted here so we all can make an informed choice, no?

What do you think?

Yup too much time in my hands..I know :o:D

I have been informed that the Aroon (Rai) restaurant near Thapae Gate charges Thai people less than Farangs, but the chap that told me is a pathological liar as well as a heroin addict, so I've never known if it is true.

Can anyone verify this? :o

In my experience, if you speak Thai, smile and be extremely polite, you are almost never charged the higher price and can frequently get by with lower pricing than many Thais.

I can smile and I think I'm extremely polite, well the "speaking Thai part".... :o I always try to bluff with a couple of phrases expecially with tuk tuk and taxi drivers, they usually laugh their @ss off...not exactly the effect I was hoping for :D .

Anyway this is my little list

Insect Museum

Phu Ping Winter Palace

Zoo Chiang Mai (to see the Pandas)

Wat doi suthep

Chiang Mai safari park

Mae Sa Waterfall

(for the first time visitors)

As you see many of these places are NOT private business, the government fully supports this practice.

Personal note: What pisses me off is the way they often try to hide their acts, ashamed of something?

p.s.

If you are Japanese and you are visiting Rome... NO , the taxi fare from the airport to your hotel is NOT 200-300 euros , those nasty Italians... :D

If you have a Thai driving licence some places will give a discount if you have a Thai friend in high places you wont pay anything, and if it pains you to use the toilets in these establishments its probably piles. :D

Don't they have a set price on the menu - thai and english - Aroon (Rai) is crap anyway - do you think many Thais go there?

One members opinion does not constitute a "bashing list" Marco, in fact I'm inclined to agree with him. The food is just average there. Having said that, on the few occasions that I have been there over the years. I havn't seen Thais getting any special treatment.

Most Thai restaurants have menus in Thai or English or both (with amusing spellings) with stated prices, and that's normally what you pay. A large group of diners will often get a discount.

There are far more blatent double standards to be worried about that the local eatery. Up till recently, and this was not common knowlege, Thai Airways (domestic) had one price for nationals, and another for aliens/tourists, this has since been brought into line.

National parks are a disgrace, and it's lucky that most tourists don't read Thai. The Mae Sa waterfalls are a typical example, two signs, one in english stating the entrance fees, and another in Thai stating the Thai fees.

The Panda enclosure at the zoo is also a blatent display. On the only occasion that I went there with a Thai friend, I walked straight to the "Thai booth" on the left, smiled politely, and asked for two tickets, she smiled back, and commented on my Thai, and gave me the tickets.

It might not work for you every time, but a polite smile goes a long way, and it costs nothing to smile :D

edit:- correction

You should know better than mention a restaurant on the CM forum if you you don't want opinions!
