Travel warnings against Thailand softened

BANGKOK, 5 December 2013 (NNT) - Many countries have softened their travel advice on Thailand after the political rallies in Bangkok subsided, according to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Sek Wannamethi said there were 34 countries and two special economic zones which still maintained their travel advisories for tourists visiting Thailand. However, many of them have reduced the intensity of their travel notices by saying that the situation in Thailand has much improved.

The spokesman added that the U.S. Embassy in Thailand and the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand had voiced their support for the Thai government's democratic approach and opposed the protesters' occupation of government offices.

Mr Sek pointed out that the foreign media were closely monitoring the situation in Thailand and were very much interested in the government-sponsored forum between the private sector and academics to find solutions to the country's political standoff.

According to the spokesman, the head office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Si Ayutthaya Road, which was previously seized by anti-government protesters, and the Department of Consular Affairs on Chaeng Wattana Road have now resumed their normal operations. However, two other offices of the ministry located inside the Government Complex remain closed since the protesters are still occupying the premises.

The Thais are saying this but what about the countries involved ?

Any statement from any government 'ministry' is to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Yingluck and the Phua Thais will have to pull one big rabbit out of a hat to keep the status quo ongoing.

We will see clearer by (and over) the weekend what the real situation is going to be, everything can change back by tomorrow, and all it takes is one silly trip to Bangkok for the red shirts and it could all end up worse.

The little cousin in charge of the Foreign Ministry and other assignments has proven himself you be a complete waste of space when it comes to his contribution to a positive preception of Thailand, by the real world.The only thing more suspect than his public statemnts/reasoning/pleas is who wrote them for him.

Travel warnings totally unjustified in my opinion.This is a Thai problem,not one that involves farangs.

What a bunch of crap...... No country has softened any warning. The only things which have softened are the brains of the officers working in this bureau. Dont thai me .....

I would have to respectfully disagree with your opinion. I think most people would appreciate knowing that there are areas to avoid when travelling from their home country to Thailand.

I have never been impressed with the markmanship displayed at the rilfe range nor the rocks chunked at the soi dogs by the general. When a mob goes extreme/violent they are not predicable and certainly are not known for their selection of those to harm. But then, I have been on the fringe area of two incidents, which the present situation could easely develop into.

Really, what makes you hope the airports will be occupied, except by legitimate travelers, of course?

It may have happened, by a huge judgement of error some years ago, but lessons have been learned this time. No airport occupations by anyone, red, yellow, blue or green.

Really, what makes you hope the airports will be occupied, except by legitimate travelers, of course?

Of course it's a Thai problem but the travel warnings are nothing to do with a foreigners political opinion. But there is a risk of violence in the streets and because the situation is volatile foreigners will read the travel warnings and think carefully before bringing themselves and their loved ones to Thailand for a holiday.

The reasons for the problems, they won't really care, they just want to know if it is safe and is it worth the risk traveling to Thailand, that's what the travel warnings are for.
