webfact
Redshirts Call Off Ayutthaya RallyBy Khaosod OnlineBANGKOK: -- The United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) has cancelled its rally in Ayutthaya province, hours after Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced her intention to dissolve the parliament.Redshirts across the country were originally urged to hold a massive rally at a stadium in Ayutthaya tomorrow to defend the government of Ms. Yingluck amid the ongoing anti-government protests to replace her with an unelected ′People′s Council′ - a proposal decried as unconstitutional by the Redshirts. The scheduled date of the rally, 10 December, is also designed to coincide with Constitution Day, which remembers the enactment of the first official Constitution in 1932, following a successful revolution to overthrow the Absolute Monarchy by People′s Party in June that year. But Mr. Surachet Chaikosol, leader of UDD′s Ayutthaya chapter, said UDD leaders have discussed about the situation and agreed that it is best to call off the rally. "The Prime Minister has declared her wish to solve the House, that is a good solution, because it would help prevent Thai people from confronting each other," Mr. Surachet said.UDD staff have already packed up their tents, loudspeakers, and other equipment, and vacated the stadium, Mr. Surachet added. The last Redshirts rally to show their support for the government was ended following the violence near their rally site in eastern Bangkok which killed one anti-government protester and three Redshirts supporters.Pol.Lt.Gen. Sermkit Sitthichaikarn, a police commander in Ayutthaya, said the police are "relieved" to hear about the Redshirts′ cancellation of their rally. Nevertheless, he said police officers will continue to monitor the situation and set up security checkpoints in the province as a precaution.Source: http://www.khaosod.co.th/en/view_newsonline.php?newsid=TVRNNE5qVTNORGs0TkE9PQ==-- KHAOSOD English 2013-12-09

rogerdee123
Will we be surprised if PM Yingluck did not consult her party, PTP, before she decided to dissolve the parliament?
Siripon
If I was a red shirt I would be having doubts about the leaders- last week the grass roots were summoned to Rajamangala, only to be dispatched home again within 24 hours. Now they've called off this rally before even starting. Can upcountry reds gain 'frequent fliers' points, and similarly, can their leaders obtain 'frequent liars' stamps?

Popular Post Robby nz
Like I posted elsewhere. Their leaders can no longer hide behind parliamentary immunity so will want to, at the very least keep their heads down, possibly even make a run for it. They will have had nobody who was willing to get up on their stage and spout the usual hatred and lies.

slapout
It would appear that both factions are being lead by people of suspect motives. Neither group seem to have a agenda to rid the country of it core problems, corruption, economic monopolies, and basic nondiscrimanition welfare for the majority of the people. These problems and the groups behind them have to be rooted out first and then it may be possible for a real fix. It may take a while but its doable, if the "ME ME" attitude is stamped out (completely taken out of the circle jerk). It will not come from a committee financed by any of the groups mentioned. .

The government and the Red Shirts not giving the mob and it's laughably illegitimate 'leaders' what they really want which is violence against them so they can wave the bloody rag while they attempt to a topple a democratically elected government. Smart moves at every turn so far.

One step in front of Suthep all the way and showing Abhisit and Suthep how to confront an angry mob without shooting to kill Hello this is Earth calling LaLa Land, Earth calling LaLa Land over! The reasons the reds have amazingly cancelled is that as Robbie NZ said, there are now legal implications concerning MP immunity, or lack of it and even more simple than that, nobody was going to the red protest. There were no crowds, no tens of thousands to protest, they were all staying at home and sticking two fingers up at PTP. Thaksin's time is over, he screwed his own people and they are completely aware of it now. What Thailand does now is anybody's guess, but the first thing they need to do is ensure there is ONE law that applies to all people with zero immunity for MP's. The next thing is that any elections must be monitored and observed by the UN to ensure the process is corruption free, that being the case whatever results there are stick. And as a final reminder for the short sighted that think otherwise. Electing a Government in to place does not give that Government the right to do what it pleases for the personal benefit of it's own MP's and to rape and plunder a nations treasury. It does not give that Government the right to assume it can complete it's tenure without being answerable to those that it serves....the people. If the UK Government had spent the first two years stealing billions of dollars of tax payers money and instilling a power hierarchy based on nepotism and corruption then the people would also have taken to the streets, the Government would be forced out and elections would be called. Winning an election means you have won the honour of working for the people for 4 years, not screwing them over for 4 years. PTP have burnt all their bridges, I am delighted to say. You reap what you sow.

Bad tactical move by the Red Shirts. YL lost the only leverage she could have wielded in the situation at the time. Her maternal instinct (to give her the benefit of the doubt) prevented her from making harsh decisions such as the ones that Abhisit and Suthep made back in 2010. To the victor go the spoils... deservedly or not.
newcomer71
Common sense used by reds. And it's twice in a week! Sometimes miracles happen! Today a big amount of people won (still not the majority), they got House resolution from PTP and new elections. Now let see how Suthep and Abhisit will solve the Shin clan problem. Will they break the consitution (too) and declare their people committee? Or which plans they have in store? In any case lower class lose, always. Sad to say.

Popular Post AryanicAristocrat
Oh Dear...the poor reds....thaksin cannot give them any handouts for a rally right now as they have to use the funds for the next elections. But be patient reds. They will be giving u Bt 500 or a Bt 1,000 soon for your votes and the lives of your future generations. In the meanwhile, a lot of TV Members who are red sympathisers can maybe don ur red shorts and go up to the protestsing mobs in Bangkok (whom many of you claim to be a minoirty with no voice) and sound out your views and maybe you guys can also with your wives donate monies from your own pockets for the reds.

I think this response is shock at you're lot taking a hiding!!! The rabble you talk about are the ones making all the money for Thailand's economy whilst this government then procedes to waste it all on the rice scam in enriching their mates bank balances in the pretence that they are helping the farmers. LadPhrao1
Looking forward to Thaksin's return to Prime Minister in Thailand, an International Court ruling on the charges of corruption, the leaders in the last coup and the current attempted coup in leg irons and 150,000 sheep returned to their pastures. tingtongteesood
Haahahahaha, rubbish ! They saw the number of people that came out today and realized that what little support they could muster would be an embarrassment in comparison, same as what happened at Rajamangala. So they decided not to bother. Got em on the ropes, now just need to finish them off.
