No - what I think: Ask Thaksin I'm sure he has some unpleasant memories on Americas anti-democratic activities in ousting a democratically elected government during the 2006 coup. Maybe Ahisist remembers it too So, marching to the US Embassy 10 days back, made perfect sense. "US expresses strong support" means to me, the US was meddling already a long time in Thai affairs. The 'people' want 'reform' before the election and that will take quite some time to accomplish. Someone who uses a mob as a putsch to force a coup, and ignores the fact that this will simply create a red shirt mob that will take over some other part of the city and demand elections. Islam countries are far from free with their islam influenced laws. That goes for Malaysia as well, a "limited" democracy. It means the US will support any government in Thailand that opposes islam. US influence in Thailand is huge, "deeper than one would think", as another comment here says. Thai and US military have strong bonds. And the Thai forces are next to the King the only stable factor in Thailand. Imho the US would rather not chose the thaksinistas into power if the they would have a choice. So far the USA are the only country that consequently puts white collar criminals and frauds behind bars (Enron, Madoff and quite a lot of lower civil servants on state-level). Even the rich then can't buy their way out. The USA would never ever give a convicted criminal a diplomatic passport as the Yingluck/Thaksin government did. After all, The US is Thailand's #1 trading partner, and the US has a lot invested in Thailand. It's just too much for some people to have the US make a statement such as "We encourage all involved to resolve political differences peacefully and democratically in a way that reflects the will of the Thai people and strengthens the rule of law." Americans, and their democratically elected government, are interested in many individuals and their countries around the world. While we are not perfect, what happens in Thailand, or Europe or in the South China Sea is of interest to us. We have many faults but I will continue to believe the majority of Americans share concerns of many world citizens.
