This doctor at Bumrungrad specializes in pituitary tumors http://www.bumrungrad.com/doctors/Rungsak-Siwanuwatn

Note that he is only there one a week so time arrival accordingly.

He trained in the US and is a professor at a leading medical school so I am sure your friend would be in good hands with him. Bumrungrad also has some good endocrinologists which often are needed as part of the care team as well. And, the hospital gets a large volume of clients from the middle east so accustomed to the dietary and other cultural requirements.

The hospital has a referral office in Oman, I suggest he go through them to get everything set up, just be sure to request specifically this doctor. The Oman office for Bumrungrad is:

The treatment of pituitary tumor is managed according to a few principles which includes (1) whether it compresses the adjacent organs and (2) whether it is a secretory or non-secretory tumor.

Surgery is usually performed when the tumor is large and causes significant mass effect toward adjacent organs such as optic chiasm, hypothalamus, or cavernous sinuses or fail medical treatment in cases of secretory tumor such as cushing syndrome or acromegaly. Surgical treatment for secretory tumor such as prolactinoma usually result in 10-50% recurrent so many surgeons will not do it.

If the pituitary tumor is a non-secretory type and causes no mass effect, usually they'll advise you to just wait and see. This is a typical frame work which a surgeon will use in order to choose whether operation is needed or not.

That is not my reading of it. Rather, he is looking for a place to perform the surgery.

Pituitary tumors are not all that common and coming from a country of very small population (only 3 million) there may not be any neurosurgeons experienced in it there. In fact probably not many neurosurgeons, period.

But a neurologist would be able to assess whether the tumor required surgery. Which I gather is what has happened.

Big Thanks for all who replied this post.

Sheryl - Thanks for the details and will contact them today to get information's.

txp158 - Thanks for your replies aswell .

Most of the omanies prefer to get the surgeries done specially in India and Thailand as you can find specialists/ experienced doctors / equipment/ new methods.

i red another post and there were few names been mentioned as specialist neurologists at Bumrungrad hospital.
out of all the names we choose
Dr. Ketchai Suavansri and Dr. Rungsak Siwanuwatn ( thanks to sheryl's post )

any other recommendations would be highly appreciated

Dr. Ketchai is an excellent neurologist but he is not a neurosurgeon.

His area of specialization is Alzheimers Disease.

So not at all relevant to your friend's needs.

Dr. Rungsak as noted is a neurosurgeon and has extensive experience in treatment of pituitary tumors.

There are otjer neurosurgeons at Bumrungrad who can also handle this though I do nto think any have as much experience/expertise specifically in pituitary tumors as Dr. Rungsak.

As said many patients from middle east countries obtain medical service in Thailand and several have representatives located in those areas. This hospital I use has many such patients and a contact there so it is not restricted to Bumrungrad in that respect. Expect other major hospitals may also have local contacts there.
