Yoghurt with live bacteria

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Where can I buy yoghurt with live bacteria. Preferably with different enzymes and low fat and (non-) low-sugar.

All Yogurt has live bacteria in it.

I think Robin's probably after cholesterol reducing Benecol, which can sometimes be found in 7/11 of all places.

I don't think all yogurt have live bacteria. Or at least not the same as Activa or Yakuit. Activa available anywhere and the Yakuit only from the Yakuit lady. Ask any Thai. If you want to poop Activa is the choice. Some say it should only be sold with a prescription it is so effective.

Yoghurt with live bacteria and enzymes are widely available in Europe, but not so much in Asia, as far as I know.

Problem is, I can't read Thai. I've seen Thai ''copy'' of Yakult and Activa, however, not sure about the authenticy of these Thai products.
Nevertheles, Thank you for your answers and I'll continue my search and research.
Warm regards,
Robin

The standard brand YOLIDA which I eat daily:

The label is clear.

I'm believing it.

One tip, if you're getting into probiotics (such as yogurt with LIVE stuff) also eat lots of PREBIOTICS. Such as onions. They work together. You need BOTH.

Thank you Jingthing, exactly what I was looking for. It is sold in supermarkets such as Big C and Tesco I assume?

Seven eleven has it....

All Yogurt has live bacteria in it.

It does when it's made, but most types I find have been pasteurized to kill the bacteria and prolong the shelf life. Unless it says it has live cultures, it probably doesn't.

I have a favorite brand I buy when in the States that is fat free, sugar free, and has live cultures. The sweetness comes from real fruit they put into it. It is a house brand called Kroger which can be bought at Krogers or Safeway. There are many flavors, and it costs 40 cents (13 bht) for 6 ounces (.17 kg, I think.) I usually eat 2 of them.

I also like to make a smoothie with them. 2 yogurts, 2 raw eggs and 6 ounces of real fruit juice and a little protein powder in the blender.

No I wouldn't assume they do. You'll have to check. It's not stocked everywhere and some places I've noticed it's stocked and then they drop it. In Thai dominated markets I think the lack of sugar in it makes it a marginal product. In international city Pattaya it's easy to get but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not available in many areas.

Do the onions have to be raw, or can they be cooked?

Good question.

This indicates RAW is better.

As with grains, they are better eaten in their raw state in order to obtain higher levels of nutrients and prebiotics.

I eat homemade yogurt at least once a day, when you find the yogurt culture you are looking for and have access to raw milk, It is so easy to make yogurt at home (without buying a any type of yogurt maker), and always set aside a cup of yogurt to culture your next batch of yogurt. You also can use store brought milk to make your yogurt with!

One thing I do in Thailand is eat many raw veggies and fruit, enjoy them more that way!

Cheers

You even don't need raw milk, just mix milk from the bottle and 25% yoghurt , keep it in the dark and at temp of 35-45 celcius and after 6 hours or so you have yoghurt.

Copy? They only cost 10 baht. Why would anyone copy? Anyway, the proof is in the poop. Eat Activa go poop. If that is what you are taking them for.

People are interested in eating pre- and pro-biotic foods for general gut bacteria health. Scientists have found that that the nature of our gut bacteria is important to MANY aspects of overall health. To simply this as only being about pooping regularly is totally off the mark. How helpful these casual diet change tactics are for any specific individual is another thing. For people with serious digestive diseases and pain, fecal transplants (yes, gross) to deliver healthier gut bacteria directly are becoming more common. It is already known people with vegetarian diets tend to have healthier gut bacteria profiles than meat eaters. Scientists are even seriously studying the reasons why obese people tend to have a different gut bacteria profile than normal weight people with a view towards creating a medical treatment to cure obesity with gut bacteria. No, just eating yogurt and onions is not likely to do the trick, but I think, it probably won't hurt!

What I meant was if the bacteria were active in Activa it would make you poop.

I don't eat yogurt and yet I still poop pretty regularly, so I don't think we can attribute bowel movements to the ingestion of live cultures.

The colonic microflora are also responsive to diet. In the presence of fermentable carbohydrate substrates such as non-starch polysaccharides, resistant starch and oligosaccharides, bacteria grow and actively synthesize protein. The amount of protein synthesis and turnover within the large intestine is difficult to determine, but around 15 g biomass is excreted in faeces each day containing 1 g bacterial-N.

Er, okay.

Big C, Tesco, Rimping and other department stores have in addition also a very good other Yogurt which I buy now, the name is > yoplait yoplus < it has first class ingredients, is 98 % fat free, and of good taste.
