Nongprue police stepping up security for New Year holiday

PATTAYA:--Nongprue police are urging residents planning to take extended vacations during the New Year’s holiday to register their plans with police, who are pledging to provide extra protection against burglaries.

At a Dec. 19 meeting, Nongprue Station Superintendent Col. Somnuk Changate said police are taking extra steps to provide security through Jan. 4. Among those are extra traffic signage and additional roadside checkpoints.

New permanent checkpoints, he added, have been set up in front of the Nongprue market and in front of the Pornthep 5 village.

Formally established this year, the Nongprue Station initiated 42 cases - three-fourths of them drug-related - in the first 19 days of December. Year to date, the station has opened 1,453 cases, he said.
