40 baht diesel?

Featured Replies

A bloke I know here insists that diesel will rise to 40 baht a litre from January. Tells me it's fact. He read it in the Bangkok Post. Got angry when I told him that that could be a rumour. I said, "Gee that's no good.".....and left it at that.

fact

not before an election.

Your friend probably based his figure on speculation that the diesel excise tax etc of 5.70 Baht may be reintroduced (removed by the previous Abhisit government).

Actually the Abhisit government introduced a limited time waiver on the diesel excise tax.

That has run out now.

If the EC rules that a continuation of the subsidy is against the law (buying votes) the price will automatically raise with 10% by law.

So that would take the price to about 33......in the worst case scenario. In other words the BP article was total crap.

Sorry meant 10 baht, it will be 40 baht per liter.

Fortunately the EC has allowed the government to extend the exemption another month.
