How much are Thai's paid in Bangkok ?

So now we have the structure, now lets look at the percentages. In the UK i would say the wage bill of most small to mid sized business can range from 20 to 40% of Gross income. The same in Thailand is more like 3 to 8%. Then you add in the overheads ie tax, insurance etc etc and here you are basically left with a country full of greedy, grabbing, ignorant self centered extremists bent on self indulgence and personal gain.

Wohoa! Two steps and then a leap into the unknown! You could be the next Johnny Weismuller, so you could.

I'm always wondering when I leave a tip just how much the amount means to the workers. Just for my interest could anyone tell me how much people in a few sample occupations get paid and how much they get to take home?

For example:

How much does a worker at Starbucks, a worker at a shop in the mall get?

How much might a newly hired policeman get paid (not counting any additional tips he might get).

Many of the answers are quite obviously not serious but like some said 300baht per day ia minimum wage but not all businesses follow those regulations. Normal salary for a worker in shop or in office is between 12-25000 baht starting salary for a police officer is about 13500 excluding "benefits" thais normally never tip more than 20baht im the restaurants even if they spend 10.000 on the dinner.

The people that make big money are business owners high ranking officials with deep pockets and pretty girls with light feet.

My gfs cousin works in a major bangkok univeristy since 3 years in accounting she makes 15.000 her husband manages foreignworkers for a big company he makes 20-25.000 if he get bonus or not. Both of them have bachelor degrees.

In the professional services firms, staff salaries are approximately

Starting 50,000

Mid level (managers, directors) 150,000

Partners 250,000

Law firms can be similar

Investment banking houses can be higher still. Some Thais (like the lovely staff at my firm) make great money.

1 million bht in my country's currency is around the ballpark of 40k which is well around lower average it's just around 3.3k per month and in western countries i believe that is low too even if we took aside the exchange rate.
if you believe the uk government then £24.5k a year is a livable income. Reality would be closer to your figure of £40k either as a single or combined figure.

As for tipping the general rule is 10% of the bill. If in the UK the service is good I'd normally tip a couple of quid. May not seem much but don't forget if everyone does it then it soon adds up. Plus it's not taxed.

Except £24.5 is the median wage for under 30's in the uk and the poles, spanish and Romanian service staff get along fine with less than that amount. The only reason you'll struggle abit on £24.5 is if you're living in London and don't know how to manage your money.

The uk pays an insanely high wage when compared to the rest of the world as it is, don't believe all those socialists who want to make the country conpletely uncompetitive :|

Back on topic: software engineer at a big firm (IBM, Kasikorn bank, SCB) is 30-40k

A friend who graduated from imperial with an msc got 35k at modernform healthcare. Told me that if you are foreign educated you can normally ask for a 5k pcm raise on whatever they offer.

Deloitte audit assurance is 24.5

You decide what to pay for good service. probably 10-15% of the bill would be fair.

Please tell me where the topic is "tipping amount" or has anyione mentioned tipping ?

Never let thread reading get in between your writing intentions!

....there you go again, YOU answer the OP's question, instead of digging into others.

in the office world, new graduates are about 15,000, less up country. Fluent English speakers in BKK can expect at least 20,000. Thats an important distinction in most industries. Educated abroad and with some experience they can expect 50 -60,000 if they have a real MBA or similar. I know some Thais at senior management who pull in 150,000 and more.

Our maid used to have a regular gig at an company but they worked her to the bone. Now she freelances and has doubled her salary. She makes about 18,000 or so. And she is worth the half day she spends at our place for 400 Baht.

Don't forget regular employees at many companies expect an annual bonus of 3 months' salary minimum. So that immediately transforms a salary of 20,000 into at at least 25,000.

My wife earns 13,500 working as assistant to the Deputy Mayor in the Chiang Mai municipality office. Some benefits, such as easy credit, but not much else to speak of. The mayor and his deputies are strict about employees using their positions for personal gain. Hence, working 20 years for the government and she has amassed a huge debt.

My girlfriend is a university student, and works part time in a juice bar in a shopping mall. They pay her 50 baht per hour.

I don't know if full time staff get paid a higher rate. I hope so.

Insanely low wages. If you consider one single juice sells for 150 baht... They can cover the entire staffing costs (3 people) with 1 sale per hour.

supply and demand my friend. she go uni she should know this...............lol.

800b per day.

1 million baht to the relatives if they are killed.

Up from 500b per day in 2010, but from different employers.

I guess the employer here you are referring to is Suthepbiggrin.png

My sister in law works at tanachart bank (bkk) and she earns 20k a month.

She started a few years back with about 12k.

Her wage increases almost every year by 1000 baht.

By the end of the year she also gets a 13th payout.

My brother in law is a policeman in some kind of special force and he gets around 12k/month and about 6k extra for working in the South.

I happen to know a Thai girl who works in a Starbucks in Bangkok - they pay her 400 baht per day - 8 hour day, she works 6 days a week.

i.e. <deleted> all.

No wonder a girl gets seduced into the idea of giving a "special" massage and getting 1,000 - 2,000 for a couple of hours work.

When you hear of guys going around "tipping" 500+ baht for whatever services they have paid for, it should make you slap your own head. It's a ridiculous gesture. A Thai person will tip a taxi 20 baht for a long journey where a farang will give 100.

No wonder they tolerate us so much here!

I saw a drunk party farang in a bar the other night give a girl 100 baht (for no apparent reason other than he was showing off) - she kissed it and showed all the other girls like it was a winning lottery ticket.

A free 100 baht note to a poor/average Thai is a big deal.

My Thai GF gives a 1-5 baht coin to beggars on the street and that makes her feel very good about herself - and she has a good job at a Western company, drives a car, wears designer clothes etc. It makes me feel embarrassed but it's not my country and they are not my people.

Farangs really are fools most of the time here....

Tip:

20b in a non-posh restaurant, if incompetence or poor work hasn't been displayed. Competence and niceness may see it increased to 40b, unless the bill was under say 150b.

Coffee shops etc, none.

I think you are lying and inexperienced about Thailand.

Tipping 1 baht is an intended insult. A massive one in fact.

Using 1 baht coins to tip, or give to someone is also an insult because of this. A Thai giving between 1 and 4 one baht coins is Jai Lai (mean/nasty).

Is giving money to a beggar on the street considered "tipping"? I'd consider it charity and would imagine the recipient is not insulted by a small act of kindness.

Tut tut, you have to look at the World in the eye's of a Thai.

It will take you another 10 years here to be able to do so. Never mind. :)

Actually, no I don't. What I choose to give to other people "gratis" is my own decision. Happy New Year.

Some are on topic, many are off topic.

If education is not finished, salary are very low, 300 baht per day is official minimum, but many places pay less.

Workers, staff in shops/7-11. etc, vocational college level = 7,000 - 15,000

Administrative workers/government/teachers, etc, bachelor degree = 10,000-20,000, when alot of experience or many years up to 30,000.

Jobs on master degree level = 15,000-25,000, also with more experience or years, maybe up to 40-50,000

High level employees with master degree or higher for big companies or high level government 40,000, maybe up to 70-80,000.

Some posters mentioned salaries over 100,000, don't believe it, it will be only a very few (even in Bangkok).

People with there own business is another story, can be any amount.

Tipping is in Thailand not a general habbit with Thai people, some of the posters are right, just give 20-100 baht for an exclusive dinner. Local places = no tipping.

Only in and around tourist places, tipping became a custom.
