jackrich Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 He got shot? Wow, that is SO strange. My entire family stayed home and nobody got shot. How do you explain THAT? If you block streets for months and piss off an entire city with millions of people, you're bound to piss of the wrong ones here and there. In that case, nobody should get surprised if he gets shot. How dare the protesters think they're the only lunatics out there? 1

1ma Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Wonder if the rent-a-mob have health-insurance? Another thread baited for the hardcore supporters of either side! And a multitude of conspiracy theories!! I will get another cup of coffee. rent-a-mob ? This story isn't about the red shirts.... Perhaps the yellows are doing it for free.... and donating the 800b p/d to charity.
fasteddie Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 WhyBother, I won't call you yellow "apologist" or even "supporter" it's not my style and if anything I always thought you were one of the more sensible yellow leaning posters . So I'll tell you something candidly. you can choose to believe me or not. The only reason I post the way I do here is because I think the current PDRC strategy plays into Thaksin's hand. The continuous us against them insures Thaksin will stay in power for 15 years more, and god forbid he dies abroad we'll have five generation worth. Yellow shirts will never get anywhere with feeds insulting and patronizing a large part of the voting population they need to change from within if they ever want to have any chance to succeed. Dems have the most to gain by reaching out but if even a smart guy like butt heads endlessly for the sake of an argument what chances does the country have? I don't agree with their strategy, but agree with their reasoning. Thaksin is a blight on Thailand. While he was (directly) in power, he put relatives in powerful positions. He put restrictions on the checks and balances. He changed laws to specifically benefit his own companies. The sooner he and his relatives are out of the picture, the sooner Thailand can actually move forward. The poor of the North and North East have their voice. They have their party in power. They don't need Thaksin. But, having said that, regardless of your opinions, you should base your postings on what actually happened. "He put restrictions on the checks and balances. He changed laws to specifically benefit his own companies." Don't just keep parroting your same old reactionary vitriol, prove it, post some links, and then post some to all the good things the elites/yellows have done for the poor people of Thailand.

The 3rd is the day Abhisit declared a state of emergency but if even a smart guy like you will butt heads endlessly for the sake of that argument what chances does the country have? A polite apology for repeatedly posting misinformation wouldn't go astray. You could couple it with a thank you to WB for once again educating another history re-writer. "A polite apology for repeatedly posting misinformation wouldn't go astray. You could couple it with a thank you to WB for once again educating another history re-writer." Or alternatively, YOU could face the truth! Thaksin, for all his many faults, gave the poor some belief that things might change, some hope. What have the elite ever done for them? If Suthep and his sort continue to dismiss the people's voice as buffalo sh*t, then surely civil war will ensue, and even possibly the rise of communism.

wirat69 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Anyone else feel that tonight's NYE celebrations in BKK may well come in with a Bang. And not a good one. Don't think I'd wanna be celebrating in the same location as the protesters tonight! Well, I was not put off by the stupid reporting in the Nation and Bangkok Post. I can assure you that there was no bang, just prayers and countdown then more than a million whistles. Safe as ever, one of the most enjoyable New Years... and I have seen more than 60 of them. Stop believing the mis-reporting (or paid for reporting) and take a real look at the situation.

Even if what you post was true, it has nothing to do with my post which commented on a string of inaccurate historical claims, since removed by moderators. "for all his many faults" is interesting. Perhaps you should at them more closely, because hope and beliefs are ephemeral, and what he took from the same people is much more substantial, in his lust for power and wealth. Try to understand that since he voluntarily resigned in 2006, Thaksin has no right to dictate government policy and no right to access cabinet meetings. That a government allows both is not only morally wrong, it is criminal, but the current political structure has no power to restrict, prevent or punish such actions. Is that not worthy of reform?
SebD Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Why, oh why, do people feel the need to resort to violence. Surely the last resort of the otherwise ineffectual. I hope the chap recovers and is strengthened, rather than weakened, as a result of the cowardly assault upon him.

If you don't like the way someone plays the game, then change the rules. The only one with the right to get a person and/or their relatives out of politics are the voters. Results are what counts in politics and Thaksin got more done than any of his predecessors by tenfold. He also made many mistakes to learn from. Why do so many hate Thaksin anyway? He is just another typical politician with actually more transparency (and therefore more judgement) than the others. Does it just stem from the my team lost to you so I will hate you?

Change the rules? Isn't that what the protesters want? Oh I see. You want to see the game played with the old rules, and trust the corrupt player to change them to disadvantage themself. A little naive perhaps.
