Visa on Arrival and outbound ticket

Featured Replies

If an American arrives on a Visa on Arrival, must the outbound flight be within 30 days?

Or can the outbound flight be sometime after 30 days with a visa run after 30 days and depart Thailand sometime after the visa run?

The first hurdle will be at the American airport. Will they insist that the outbound flight be within 30 days without a visa?

Thanks for your help.

I have never heard of Thai immigration asking for an onward ticket at the airport. Not to say that it is not within their rights, but never heard of it.

My airline (not American) would not give me a ticket longer than the 30 days. I bought the ticket option which allows for date changes without penalty.

This sort of question might be better answered in the travel forum. Moving

Requirement is a visa or a ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival.

Immigration very rarely checks, they will leave it up to the airline to check the requirement. Some airlines don't check, others are very strict and won't let you board the plane. (They can get a fine and must fly you back).

You do not get a visa on arrival. You get a 30 day visa exempt entry.

The airlines can and do refuse boarding if you do not have a ticket out of the country within 30 days.

If planning on a longer stay than 30 days you should get a tourist visa that would give you a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days. The visa costs $40 per entry and you can get a visa that allows as many as 3 entries.

You could get on the internet and buy the cheapest AirAsia or Tiger Airways flight out of Thailand for day 30, or any other day for that matter.

Of course, you do not show up for the flight, but hop on a bus or minivan for a visa run.

I did this once before, because at the time, this was cheaper than the fees to change the date on my return flight, and I had the option of actually using the side flight if I wanted to.

just something for you to consider.

A post suggesting a fraudulent activity removed.

There is way that is not fraudolent, it has been mentioned countless times already.

Buy the cheapes ticket that is refundable, have it refunded once in country.
