Popular Post Headgame Posted January 4, 2014 Popular Post Share Posted January 4, 2014 Back in the mid 70's, living in Toronto and a friend said the Everley Brothers were playing at one of the airport strip hotels, I was doubtful but verified it as true. My wife and I drove out that Saturday night in a snow storm and walked into the room and man, there were about 20 other people waiting for the show to begin. The Everleys came on and roared through a 90 minute set as if they were playing at Royal Albert Hall to thousands. What a special night. The heavenly choir has a unique new sound added to its roster. farang2002 Posted January 4, 2014 Share Posted January 4, 2014 My first true girlfriend and I had many make-out sessions listening to the Everly Brothers in the late 50's. Back then I was a smoker too, like Phil Everly. Luckily I found a way to quit when I was about 30, not like my younger sister who died of lung cancer at 61 and my uncle who died at 59. It still amazes me to see people continuing to smoke, ignoring all the associated dangers of tobacco smoke. RIP Phil.. and thanks for all the beautiful music! The Everly's were his heroes, not surprisingly. One evening, Nash was in a Canadian City, and one of the Everlys dropped by and asked the younger Nash to accompany them. Nash was on 7th heaven. It was a blistering hot Summer weekend and we decided to drive to the local market for some food and drinks. On our way, we passed an old couple in their 60's walking along the dusty road. We pulled over to give them a life. They got in the car and we all introduced ourselves. Their names were Falice and Budlow Bryant (sp?). We asked if they were attending the Banjo & Fiddle contest and they said yes, they were playing later in the afternoon. They said they were farmers in Tennesee and were part time song writers. I asked if any songs had been published and they said yes, the Everly Brothers did their songs. Almost every hit song the Everly Brothers did were written by the Bryant's. I asked how long it took to write a long play record of songs. Falice said the the Everly brothers would call them and ask if the had any songs and they would reply "yes" and then the two of them would sit down and knock them out in a day or two. They couldn't read or write music so the would just put the on tape. It was a real thrill to meet them and every time I hear "Wake up little Suzy", I think about that hot Summer day so many years ago. 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
