PHUKET: -- Hundreds of angry anti-government protesters last night forced the organizers of the annual Phuket Red Cross Fair to cancel a live concert by Thai rock star Sek Loso, who was to perform the closing show at the fair.

Sek “Seksan Sukpimai” Loso was one of many Thai celebrities who joined a publicity campaign calling on voters to cast their ballots at the upcoming February 2 election.

His participation in the campaign, however, drew much criticism from anti-government factions, who posted angry comments on the Sek Loso Facebook page.

Sek, who has been enjoying a career revival after fighting a drug addiction, fired back at his online critics, swearing at them in a posting that was later pulled down from his Facebook page (click here).

Determined to prevent the rock star from taking the stage, hundreds of protesters massed at the fair at Saphan Hin (map here). Many of the crowd held placards with messages, including one that read, “You can have a different opinion, but we cannot accept you swearing at us. Go make a living somewhere else. Drug addicts not welcome in Phuket.”

Phuket Red Cross President Pawinee Inthusut attempted to talk the protesters into disbanding, but the angry crowd refused to budge.

About an hour later, at 10:30pm, officials announced the concert had been cancelled, making it clear to fair-goers, “We do not want any conflicts.”

The announcement evoked cheers from the protesters, who blew their whistles and started heading home.

“Ms Pawinee, my wife, tried negotiating with the protesters to let Sek Loso perform, but they remained angry at his Facebook posting,” Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut told the Phuket Gazette this morning.

Despite the last-minute cancellation, Sek Loso remained positive that he would return to the island to perform.

“The governor asked me for cooperation by postponing the concert. Never mind, I’m here to entertain you brothers. I’ll perform for you guys, later,” he posted on Facebook.

I am anti government but this is just a stupid act, it is for the red cross. They have to look past his red sympathies as the red cross is far more important.

You have to admire their passion. If people in my home country would do the same each time the government screws them. It might put a bit more fear into the powers that be there.

Sek Loso’s concert in Phuket cancelled due to protest

PHUKET: -- A concert by Sek Loso scheduled to be staged in Phuket Sunday night was abruptly cancelled due to a protest by anti-government protesters.

About 500 protesters from the People’s Democratic Reform Committee gathered at Wongwien Hoy or Saphan Hin circle in Talad Yai, Phuket, with placards shouting protest against the singer, Seksan Sukpimai or popularly known as Sek Loso, who was scheduled to hold his concert there on the occasion of the Red Cross fair.

The protesters were against a message posted on the singer’s Facebook page some time ago that he would like to land his kicks on the necks of those who protested against the February 2 election.

It was reported that the singer did not show up at the concert stage and kept himself in his hotel room. He reportedly flew back to Bangkok today.

You are right.

At least they were not pelted with rocks like in some place north.

Had this happened in CM, there would have been blood.

and lets not forget the bus they attacked in Bangkok 2 weeks ago or the taxi driver beaten up or the poor dead police officer. Just because they didn't kill or seriously injure someone doesn't make it right for Suthep thugs to disrupt a Red Cross fund raiser. The Red Cross is a non government organisation who help people in times of emergency world wide. These thugs will probably be turning to the red cross if the demos get out of hand and some of them are injured.

Since you are newbie here, maybe you don't know. You would be pelted with rocks here if you write something against themw00t.gif

The lovely politics of this country is coming to town, it took a while to reach this part of the country.

However please don't expect yourself to be taken seriously. After all we have already tuktuk mafia along with other transportation issues, various murders and other crimes. The politics will be an annoyance, but not a serious contester compared to Phuket's own problems.

Bla, bla bla, the taxi driver provocate them, and the police officer died in "friendly fire". Or was there anybody else on the roof...So stop these stupid lies and accept, that the Demonstrators acting Peaceful and that violence coming from the reds...sorry, blacks or grey.

Whatever colour however, from the Shin-clan company...bah.gif

I have always supported the Red Cross. But when a drug addict, in self denial, is to give a concert for the RC, doesn't that sound strange?

His famous words last year, paraphrasing "I am strong, I can handle the drugs"...

Fair enough can't argue with that. The taxi driver said something to the group of thugs so they peacefully kicked the <deleted> out of him and the police turned their weapons on themselves. How about the protestor arrested with the stolen firearm was he carrying that to peacefully blow someones head off who also may say something he didn't like. Those people in the bus where also peacefully attacked as the protestors hand hands and sung Kum Ba Yah only tho the lord they sing to is lunatic Suthep.

Just practising there protesting. Perfect practise makes perfect. They won that one. Just Yingluck to go. tongue.png

If it raises money for a good cause, which can be used to help deserving people, why is it strange? If only some non addicts could be so generous with their time. Many are, some are not. If Sek Loso has a drug addiction, at least he is doing SOMETHING good with his life by raising funds for a charity.

Not defending his usage of drugs of course (if he does use), THAT is stupid, illegal and may end up costing him his life.

Now they have stooped to a new low. Targeting organisations who have nothing to do with the Thai political situation to try and enforce their dictatorship on people is totally wrong. The Red Cross has absolutely nothing to do with Thai politics and do some great work for not only thais but people around the world. The money they may have raised would have been used to help the very people to whom these idiot brainless Suthep sheep say they represent. Idiots of the highest order and Suthep and these clowns need to be crushed now before they target anymore innocent individuals or organisations.

If you have a problem with a single person then wait until after the fund raiser and then approach them and speak in a civil manner to sort out your differences. You can't force people to take your side through violence and intimidation. This act was the lowest of lows, totally disgusting and very very wrong.

Maybe time the "RED" Cross in Thailand changed their name?
Blue Swastika springs in mind? ;-)
