advancebooking
Without a doubt Bumrungrad has the best of the best in terms of medical specialists. However, the pharmacy is a complete rip off and will charge 4 times the normal price for antibiotics. Most antibiotics can be purchased 'over the counter' from reputable chemists in thailand. I would strongly avoid buying them at Bumrungrad as its a con. They dr will tell you 'but you cant guarantee the quality at other pharmacies'. I resent having to pay over 4000 baht for a 10 day antibiotic treatment. Thats over $80. In my country it would be $20....
Sheryl
The mark up is not just for antibiotics nor is this practice limited to Bumrungrad. All the for-profit private hospitals substantially mark up drug prices. the also tend not to stock or provide generic equivalents which adds to the problem. Except when the medication is a controlled substance, in which case you have no choice, should always buy medications at an outside pharmacy, never at a hospital pharmacy. And usually a locally made generic equivalent is fine.
David48
What about buying from the pharmacy that is part of the Government Hospital?
