Farang car license with no previous license

Featured Replies

Hi,

I will be going to Thaiand with an ED visa. I was thinking of trying to obtain a car driving license. I have never taken a UK driving test. Is it possible for a farang to take a car test without owning another countries car license? Has anyone heard of anyone doing this? :)

Please only post if you have something helpful to say :)

Yes, but depending on the Thai jurisdiction, most likely easier to get your UK DL first and then get your Thai one.

Although I've heard there are some where you can just pay the money, they give you the answers and all, easy driving test, the other way's a lot simpler and more straightforward.

BTW no real need to have any DL at all unless you're renting from an international company.

Get stopped by the police a banknote will usually do. . .

Yes of course, just take the test here in Thailand. It's really simple but if you've had any driving lessons in the UK you're probably ready for the test. You need to bring a car so maybe just sign up for a 10 hour course for about 5000 baht and you can use their car for the test. There are plenty of threads already on this topic.

Look at how easy the test is!

Believe it or not people who have taken this test are entitled to drive in the UK!

There are several threads about obtaining a Thai Driving license, two are in the Pattaya Pinned Topics section, one in the Automotive Pinned topics section. Some have links to online test information, etc.

My US drivers permit had expired so I had to take the test as a new driver. No problem. This was in Chiang Mai and it took all day at the gov. office. Good luck.

Pearls of wisdom... NOT

Yes it will get you through police stops..

Now your insurance will be invalid if you hit something or if you get hit and blame will be shift to you.

But hey never worry as the police is satisfied with just some money.

Some people really left their brain home.

Yes that's true.

In my case they wouldn't have been able to collect anything from me, can't get blood from a stone.

But I understand other people don't live like that, want to be responsible citizens. . .

I don't care about that but you end up in jail if you cant pay. Screw that I don't want to end up there.

Especially for something that easy to get as a Thai license. Then again some people think its about being responsible, its more about minimizing risks at only a little effort.

Some people (maybe not you) are too lazy to get them.

Do you mean a driving license for a "non-Thai national"?

There is no such thing as a "falang licence" just as in your country I'm sure they don't issue "asian licenses."

Get your vocabulary straight; hope that is helpful enough for youthumbsup.gif

Have to agree. The easy solution could cost you much much more in the end. Better with legit process
