Does anyone know if Chatuchak / JJ Market is open this weekend?

Featured Replies

Was planning on going down there until a friend of mine said they might be closed due t the protests. Anyone have an idea?

Thx

Open

Crowds get very bad after noon.

Best to show up before all the shops are even open, as early as 9-10.

Try to get what you want ASAP so when it gets to the point you can't move more than 1 m/min you can get out of there.

Otherwise fun place to visit, and if you know how to bargain can certainly get good deals on real quality gear destitute backpackers have had to sell off.

Decent "thai culture" geegaws and pseudo antiques as well.

Make sure to get the paperwork to allow any Buddha images to be exported.

Don't buy any endangered species.

What sort of endangered species can you buy there?

Baby turtles in gold fish bags

Chatuchak shops fully open at 10:00 and too crowded to move by 11:00.

Choose your time window carefully.

Some shops open earlier, as wyn suggested.

I go to Chinatown on Sunday mornings for a true flea market experience around Khlong Thom market. On the way out the door right now.
