Rental price? Inflated? Normal?

Featured Replies

Moving to CM next month with my family & have been doing some looking around online just to see what's around. We plan to find a home to rent upon arrival but I wonder what is the "norm" for a 4-5bd house with its own pool (western style kitchen/modern)

We have a pool at home here in Oz & the kids are in it all the time but keeping an open mind on what we find it's not essential.

My question is what can you expect to pay?

Some of these properties are listed at a fairly steep price per month (even comparable to our rental market here at home)

Are they inflated or is it normal?

Don't want to offend but don't want to be ripped off. What's a reasonable budget for this type of property?

Any wisdom out there you can share?

J.

Hi Simon here when you get here play it cool with agents.

Tell them you have lots to see and what's the locals price for this property.

Yesterday I looked a property was 200.000 he dropped to 150.000 instant.

It's a very nice place and great food people very nice.

I moved from Perth W/A you get more bang for your buck lol.

Just have fun and play the agents at there own game.

Good Luck

Simon

Ah yes! The west coast, talk about inflated.

I grew up in Karratha we moved over to VIC 3yrs ago as much as we miss it we don't miss the cost of living.

Thanks for the tip ?

20,000 to 45,000 a month with a pool. Anything higher here is madness.

Some of these modern family homes are advertised 80,000 & over, not something we could personally justify. We've set a limit on how much were prepared to pay & it's not anywhere close to that much.

Was wondering if I was missing something.

Cheers for insight.

Appreciate the response.

You are not missing anything. Shows you are no dummy. The prices I stated before are a little more realistic.

5 bedroom with private pool = 50K+ per month. 20K as one member quoted...not in your wildest dreams.

I'm not at all expecting to find a new luxury 5 bedroom with private pool for 20k.

Just appreciate the input of more experienced expats. Is the property worth the same rental prices as in melbourne/Sydney Australia ?

Was doubtful, but 99% of the agent websites were telling me so. Just wanted a realistic expectation of where to set our budget.

Keeping an open mind. But being mindful :)

Appreciate the advice!

Excited to call CM our home in 2014

Agree that around 50k is fair. Budget homes in less desirable but still secure areas can be found for 9 or 10k (3 bedrooms, no pool, of course.)
