oravka
Hello, I would like to use Skype, however I need a headset. I tried Big C, but they only have headphones or microphones, but no headsets. Is there a special shop where I could get it? Is it possible to buy it only in Bangkok? Thank you for your reply. Katarina

Katarina Hi Katarina and We don't know where you are located, so specific directions are not possible However, just about anywhere that specialises in computer hardware should be able to supply, from about 200 Baht. Firefoxx
Yes, most computer stores will sell headsets. Quality varies. I generally go for the "mic on attached stick" rather than "mic on the line" variety... gives better sound. The ones that have plastic arches will probably fail within a year, so choose wisely. You could also try the electronics/computer section of superstores like Lotus or Carrefour.
thohts
Just go to IT City at Paragon (4th floor) and check out the headphones with mics there. I bought a Plantronics model that works very well for about 1,200 baht. (A little expensive, but it replaces the 800 baht Philips model I bought a couple of months ago that turned out to be crap) It works perfect for Skype - the people I call actually hear me normally. (Instead of "through a tin can" like the Philips model) Edited May 22, 2006 by thohts
CobraSnakeNecktie
USB headsets are harder to find and more expensive but better performance and less machine noise. Another alternative is to go Bluetooth wireless like the Motorola DS500. Gives you more freedom and fewer wires and it works fine with Skype on OS X. Phil Conners
What I don't understand is that I was never able to find a proper "skype phone" - basically a telephone like any other telephone but plugs into the computers USB port, comes both in wired and wireless versions - in Thailand while in Europe I've seen the first 40 different models. I would have thought that there would have been a relatively much higher demand for this in Thailand. Maybe a business idea huh

tuky
I actually bought my wife an 1100 baht webcam with mic included from tukcom Sriracha. Works great with Skype pc2pc, telephone quality and she has the freedom to put our daughter to sleep while we talk (and occassionally I sing a few goodnight songs). (A little expensive, but it replaces the 800 baht Philips model I bought a couple of months ago that turned out to be crap) Sat 27 May 06, 7:25 p.m. Hi Thohts, all, Interesting coincidence. I just did the same thing; bought a 700 bahtski Creative headset/mic in the hopes the quality would be better than the 200 baht el cheapo it replaced. Results were disappointing, a little better, but not significantly better, unfortunately. Maybe I just have a crap sound card? I am out of the loop on sound card specs. The problem is that I live in Khon Kaen and checked with every IT shop in Oasis Plaza and nobody had any kind of USB headsets! Only analog at Big C and Lotus as well. From googling around, the Plantronics DSP100 & DSP400 look pretty good. Glad you like yours. Anybody know a shop in Bangers where I can get mail order by internet or by telephone? Thanks for any info. Aloha, Rex
