Hi. Thanks to all that provide help on this website. I have some questions. Sorry I am sure they have been asked before.

I am married to a Thai and would like my wife to visit Australia with me in Oct, while I am there for work. I am not interested in her moving there and on this trip we don't plan for her to do any work, although maybe in the future we will consider her staying in Australia and doing some part time work, while I am there. Anyway, my question is what sort of visa should I ask for. A Spouse or just a tourist visa? Is one harder than the other? What will they ask? What evidence do we need? How long will it take?

Question two. Our marriage is recognised in Thailand (we are married here), and the Embassy website says it will be recognised in Australia but "but further documentation will be required from Births Deaths and Marriages for passport issue purposes." What does that mean? How do I get my marriage recognised in Australia? Who do I ask about that? Where? What is the process?

Question 3 - We are only just married, and currently I am still on a tourist visa and doing visa runs every month. Can anyone tell me about the next step where I get to stop doing visa runs? What do I need to do? How long does it take and how much does it cost?

Thanks

Paul

Good links provided from Vinny.

Paul, you should spend some time reading through the various threads in this section. All of the information that you require is there.

If you apply for a tourist visa, your wife will not be able to seek employment. You said that maybe in the future you would like her to work part time. This is not allowed with a T/V. In the T/V application you must list the main reason for visiting Australia as for touring purposes only.

Once you have applied for and been granted a spouse visa, then she can work.

With regard to your question 3, you should post this question separately in the 'Thai visa, residency and work permits' forum.

True.

My mate recently hosted the visit of a Thai female whom he met some years ago in Pattaya. She is not his girlfriend.

In her application she stated the main reason for visiting Oz was to attend an iron man marathon near the Gold Coast.

Her T/V application was approved.

When I mentioned "touring purposes only," I include all the other things associated with touring. Visiting people, meeting people, attending functions etc. etc.
