Opening a bank account

Hi, I've been in Thailand since August 2013. I'm now on my second double entry tourist visa.

Can I open a bank account with this?

I've read some posts that say I can, some that say I can't.

Do I need a residency permit and if so, can I get one with a tourist visa?

It's a shame they make this so complicated.

Sorry, should have mentioned I'm in Chiang Mai, not Bangkok.

Anyone know a Farang friendly bank in Chiang Mai?

Take your pick, decide which bank you like best and go open an account there, if the branch you visit says no, go to a different branch, they're really all the same and they all work the same way when it comes to opening an account.

"They" aren't the ones who make it complicated.

It's a shame some farang find little things such a hurdle to deal with.
