CMPO offers talk with PDRC leader Suthep

BANGKOK: -- The Center for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) will be holding talks with the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) leader Suthep Thaugsuban tomorrow in its bid to urge him not to make any attempt to block voting stations.

Director General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Tarrit Pengdit, today told members of the press after his meeting with the CMPO, that both police and army personnel will be utilized on February 2 election day to help with security and maintain peace and order.
Arrangements have also been made to holds talks with Mr Suthep at the Pathumwan intersection protest site at 2 pm.

The CMPO negotiating team will be headed by Pol. Lt-Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, the Deputy Chief of the National Police. The objective of the talks is to request that the PDRC do not block access to the various voting stations in the capital city. The planned talks are in reaction to the group’s attempt to amass protestors to surround and blockade Bangkok’s fifty district offices preventing ballots and ballot boxes to be distributed to the various voting sites.

The CMPO had warned protestors that any attempts to stop the election on Sunday is illegal and against the Emergency Decree.

Apart from Pol. Lt-Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, the CMPO team will also comprise of Pol. Lt-Gen Worapong Chiwapreecha, Deputy Chief of the National Police, and representatives from the Army, Office of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand and the Election Committee (EC).

The security measures for election day will be coordinated with the EC which will utilize 130,000 police officers nationwide 8,000 of which will be dedicated to Bangkok. The measures will also include backup procedures should election stations are overwhelmed by protestors.

The CMPO head Chalerm Yoobumrung today denied the rumors that the CMPO were planning to assassinate protest leaders.

He said he would never issue orders to assassinate anyone.

“It’s stupid to do that. The PDRC wants to incite confusion and chaos. In fact, I have ordered police to stay clear of protest leaders and that we would arrest them should time come and they break the law,’ he said.

The CMPO should turn up for their 2pm meeting with enough cavalry to arrest Mr. Suthep and charge him with murder, treason and the rest of the catalogue of crimes he has committed: little point though. The judiciary are more interested in trying TRT/PPP/PTP leaders for appearing on cookery programmes.

Somebody issued orders to assassinate another protest leader, so one can well understand the PDRC's poi

Really? Who put out the order?

OK- you aren't sure- but you are sure an order was put out.

Uhmmm-- yeah.

Given the turnout at Suthep's speech tonight - maybe 1500 with about a third being tourists (I was there) - it ain't surprising. He has no more ammunition left.

Why isn't Chalerm going to the meeting himself?

Look at the time of meeting 2pm , Charlerm will be on his 6th doses of ear medicine for the day by then

CMPO sounds a bit desperate already.

Why would that be ?

On the contrary, a very good move to be seen to offer dialogue and to demonstrate, once he declines, just how stubborn and inflexible Suthep is.

I don't know if it was random- or if it was planned.

But you have stated that someone put out an order.

What was the order? Who put it out? Who carried it through?

don't know?

Then--- admit that it's just your imagination talking.

This is a good strategy.

Suthep is spent force and his dismissing talks is bluff and blunder.

He will really be outed tomorrow when the talkers go to him and it is blatant that he is the only one obstructing things. It will be very clear to all that if talks do not happen, that it is him.

I think Suthep will have to soften. He clearly did not have the numbers tonight. Far too many there were obviously staff and bodyguards. lot of tourists mixed up and shoppers and then for the live music. See many times this amount of people in Lumpini every night.

Got to agree with Chalerm here. They do not want to kill or arrest these idiots as they do more damage to their cause just by being left out there.

Yes, the Police may be critisiced. but in the bigger picture Suthep is galvanising the Red support at a time it may have been waning. Suthep, for sure is the best recruiting tool the UDD have right now!!!!

How Freudian of you, "to be seen to offer dialogue", as opposed to any sincere offer of dialogue...!! Nice one Prbkk...!!

Not Freudian at all, just a tired and emotional mistake at the keyboard..

He has to stock up on drinks before the alcohol ban comes into force.

I am certainly no fan of Suthep, but who exactly is he supposed to have murdered, what evidence is there of treason, and what catalogue of crimes is he supposed to be responsible for?

There have been several people killed during the current protests, the vast majority of whom are anti-government protesters who have died at the hands of red shirt extremists. It therefore seems that these criminal acts that you are foisting upon Suthep belong somewhere else, in the Middle East.

We have today heard of a plan to set up an alternative government in Chiang Mai, an act which is seditious and punishable by death, since even planning to oppose the nation state and the monarchy is sufficient to prove guilt; however, we have heard of no plans for the RTP to arrest the individual who is making such statements

The CMPO is spineless, and it is simply making such an offer of discussions as a show for the public. That spineless individual, Chalerm, fled through the back door and escaped in his Porsche after taunting the protesters, and now, from afar, is pulling the strings of Tarit. What Tarit needs to understand is that he has surpassed any credibility of his office, and is regarded by all right-minded thinkers in Thailand as a puppet of his Dubai master. He needs to book his flight very quickly...!!

Mark my words, if these individuals do not manage to make their escape to Dubai when this is all over, they will find themselves languishing in a prison cell for a long time...!!

Not "a plan to set up an alternative government in Chiang Mai", but a plan to move the legitimate government to Chiang Mai in the event of an attempted military coup. Not quite the same thing.

If only the dialogue could offer more than, 'Do what we tell you to' with the inevitable reply 'You must be kidding'.

But obviously it would be more intelligent for the PDRC to take a step backwards at this point in time. This fight is far from over and they should conserve some energy for what is coming.

But Thailand, the land of 'face'.....

Do you trust a man that

A/ Is a PTP member

B/ When asked a simple question like "Is that your car" the answer is "The car did not actually belong to me, but to a partner in a company run by my son" then said a few days later "The Rolls belonged to a Singaporean businessman who owned many luxury cars, and he had left it in my son Duang's care"

C/ Says "I promise to be beheaded if Thaksin is not back by the 1st of January 2014" That promise is 30 days overdue.

D/ Sits in parliament drunk and abusing female MP's

E/ Helps his son escape a murder charge then brings him back to be a police chief

F/ Is a PTP member (Sorry had to say that one twice)

G/ Chalerm discovered that Akeyuths murderer was his driver and the motive was robbery even though Akeyuth was wearing a 300 000 baht amulet and all this was deduced by the great detective before a police investigation…...YET when Suthin ( a protest leader) was assassinated there are no leads and you seem to have absolutely no idea what happened as if your great detective skills have left you.

The gullible may support you Chalerm. But sure as heck I don't believe a single word you say.

Horses for courses. Send a maniac to catch a maniac

Chalerm is the one person who can really rile up Suthep, and the more Suthep is riled up, he more and more stupid things he says he and changes his speach to answer or insult him.

This is diverting Suthep and weakening him. He cannot get on with his dictatorship push properly now as he feels compelled to engage in argument with Chalerm. He can't stop himself.

Like the old 3rd Degree. The reasonalble face of the Government will be offering talks.. (whether they belived in them or not, they will be seen to be offering a reasonable face to face meeting) Then Chalerm will rattle his cage for him and Suthep won't be able to control his mouth again.

The angrier he gets, the more of his support base he puts off. So.. all in all, Chalerm is doing what his real job was meant to be, to get under the skin of Suthep.

Now we may think Chalerm drinks and is stupid or whatever, but Yingluck clearly put him there knowing this, so it must be tactical. Given that Yingluck is PM and got elected under Coup laws shows some high degree of intellegence, so she will know Chalerms shortcomings and is using them to advantage.

Alls fair in love and Coup attempts!!!

Chalerm : " He said he would never issue orders to assassinate anyone. “ It’s stupid to do that. The PDRC wants to incite confusion and chaos. In fact, I have ordered police to stay clear of protest leaders and that we would arrest them should time come and they break the law,’ he said. "

What Chalerm really meant to say was he wouldn't do that because it's against the law in every country on the planet. His remark that they would arrest them if they break the law will come as a welcome surprise to the PDRC, though, because it suggests a tacit admission that up to this point they haven't.

Why doesn't Chalerm go to the meeting ? After all, he makes sure everybody knows he's the big-shot in town. It seems only fitting that Mr. Fearless go. And surely Tarrit can break away from his busy schedule of finding new businesses to intimidate in support of free expression ? The inclusion of the EC is hilarious, as Pheu Thai have never been prepared to meet them themselves except under extreme duress, and only then to tell them to fly a kite. In light of Suthep's announcement that there would be no blockage to polling stations, it seems more like a public-relations exercise on the part of the administration to " convince " the international media that they tried. It might therefore suggest very aggressive tactics on the part of the administration on polling day.

None of what you said had anything to do with my argument.

Chalerm denied a rumor regarding assassination of PDRC leaders. I showed that Chalerm cannot be trusted including his inability to solve a crime involving, surprise, surprise the assassination of a PDRC leader. End of story.

Bar one point.

If Yingluck had a high degree of intelligence then that fact alone warrants impeachment for not using that intelligence for the benefit of the majority when overseeing the rice scheme or using that intelligence to beat Abhisit at a debate which she flatly refuses to participate in to this day or overseeing a flood management centre that was flooded while she was driving around in a boat handing out food packages.

Pretty intelligent heay? OR just pretty?

I sincerely doubt that Yingluck put Chalerm anywhere except the Labour Ministry, considering his long 'friendship' with Thaksin, But I agree that he has most likely been rolled in to place as an expendable liability.

Yingluck may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I don't see any need to insult her.
