The rental business also has a duty of care. Did they even check to see if he was licenced? These things are very dangerous in the hands of inexperienced and unlicenced riders. Bothe rider and rental operator should be facing charges and be required to pay all medical costs.

Licenced to do what?

To ride the jetski.

I was in Pattaya a few years ago and these three Indians rented Jet skies. They drove them close to shore where kids were swimming and acting like fools. People was yelling at them to move away from the shore. They started to crisscross their jet skis and of course one hit the other one and of course you know the rest of the story from here.

saw somthing similar a few years ago...the indian was trying to drive the jet ski close to the shore while showing off and having his pals take photos of him,he hit a thai child who was playing in the water, the child was rushed to the hoslital...and the indian recieved his''cumupance''....these tourists have no regard for anyone other than them selves, and it is not only the indians.....these tour group vacations bring people who have no i dea how to behave or interact with other tourists....

I can't wait for the outcome of this one!!

Absolutley priceless (unless you're the Indian, where I foresee it having a price!!!!). Can you imagine the jet-ski operator being charged and prosecuted (and fined) over the act of an Indian renting it??? You really couldn't make this up could you???!!!!!

I wonder if they'll both get what they deserve?? No mocking intended of course!!!

I hope the poor Russian lady makes a hasty recovery, and in future pays attention regarding low flying jet-skis!!!!

"He had also driven into the swimming area which was not permitted and could have seen the operator receive a heavy fine."

Really? I'm intrigued, though that might go some way to explaining where much of the scam monies go, as whenever I've been on the beach in Pattaya, there are always jet skis in the swimming area.

You are joking, I assume? TiT; they don't - or didn't - even ask to see a licence to ride in Florida.

I've never seen a jet ski license. Where do you get one?

Australia. You must complete a course before you are granted a licence for a jetski and you are also subject to drink driving laws whilst on the water or involved in a collision with your jetski.

Good grief, is Australia the ultimate nanny state? bah.gif

I think it's ridiculous that they hold the jet-ski rental guy responsible as well. It's not his fault that the Indian guy drove like a maniac!!!

To Quote from the Article "

"Khun Wutanyu aged 20 had rented the Jet Ski to the Indian and had already warned him about his erratic driving."

In my opinion therefore the Jet-ski renter should also be held responsible.

May be time to have speed governors and remote engine cutoffs on jet ski's then they can also hold the operators to account too, instead this operator is just going to say there was nothing he could do.

It is not exactly rocket science...

You just want to say the mind boggles, but you can't can you?

Anyone that lives there should surely be asking questions as to what sort of regulations there are governing these activities.

OK OK, don't all laugh at once

but seriously

Signs on the beach. BEWARE, WATCH OUT. inexperienced, dangerous jet ski drivers about.

I love how people who don't even live here like telling people what they should do.

Most people who live here want to get away from all the PC crap, and with that regulations on what people like to do.

Thailand is not a place for your vacation.

Not joking I can assure you 100% in Australia you need a licence and the police do actually check riders and breathe test them. Charged a few myself for being unlicensed and exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit whilst being in charge of a marine vehicle. Maybe Thailand do not have these safety measures in place as they do also let tourists rent motorcycles without licences also.

Oh, suffer the odium of presumptions and the presumptuous that abound on TV.

Surprise, surprise, I live half my life here with my daughter.

My attempt at humour was perhaps a little subtle for you.

Never mind.

By "there", I mean at that beach, where, the people are not protected by "their" own, common sense, or anyone else's common sense.

Even a book of rules, even if its NOT written by the government, i.e. don't operate the ski within "x" meters from swimmers and swimming areas, do not travel faster than a slow walking space within "x" meters from the water's edge etc.

Never mind just relax and let havoc prevail until it is your child or family member that gets injured.

Mate you won't get a licence to fart in Australia until you have completed a course in meteorology.
