February 3, 201412 yr Popular Post Three readings in the Commons, then to the Lords, where it was thrown out. The Commons could invoke the Parliament Act and over-rule the Lords, but there is not time enough in the current Parliament to waste more time on it. It was a mess of a Bill anyway, needs much more thought to be administratable. Better to vote Conservative at the next General Election if you want the Referendum. Speaking of which - we have spent the past three years negotiating with the Japanese (Hitachi and Toshiba basically) for new nuclear power plants at Wylfa (Anglesey) and near Sellafield in Cumbria. Now the European bureaucrats (unelected of course) who run Brussels have issued an opinion that the subsidies offered within the talks are illegal. I assume that if we'd been negotiating with the French at twice the price, subsidies would have been acceptable. We need to be OUT of the EU, the sooner the better.
