Thai visa for Myanmar citizen ?

Featured Replies

We are currently in Sihanoukville in Cambodia and are hoping to cross the border at Had Lek on the coast. I'm trying to find out about visa info for my girlfriend who is from Myanmar.

Been trying to contact the thai embassy but no luck as yet with emails, and phone calls are directed to those fugging annoying recorded messages that seem to be in a loop. My heart sinks every time i hear the tape start.

Been to 5 different (helpful) travel agents in Sihanoukville , Cambodia, but 2 of them told me that Burmese people do now NOT need a visa and can cross the border into Thailand for free (15 days). But that seems to go against what i read on the web - ie they still need a visa as there as yet has been no agreement signed between Thailand and Myanmar ?

The other 3 travel agents said i can get a visa with them at the travel agents in snooky for around $50 but i'm doubting that aswell even though i want to believe it rather than travel into Phnom Penh as i hope to cross via Ko Kong border. I'm pretty sure she needs a visa but would rather not have to travel to PP - IF POSSIBLE.

Anybody know if i can really use a travel agent in Sihanoukville for this or do i need to go to Thai embassy in PP ?

Thanks for any help.

She will need to apply for a tourist visa. Unless you you use an agent it takes up to 4 days to get the visa. If that is $50 all inclusive offered by the travel agent it sound fair since the visa costs $40 according to website. http://www.thaiembassy.org/phnompenh/th/services/1435/21862-VISA-Application.html

There is currently no agreement between Thailand and Myanmar for visa exempt entries. It was discussed and agreed to but never finalized.

Thanks for the quick help people !! Much appreciated.

So do you think that its no problem getting her visa through a travel agent in Sihanoukville ? ie, the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh dont have a problem with her not going in , in person ?

Money no problem. Just really dont want to go into chaotic PP when we are so near to the border here. If i can do it with a travel agent in Sihanoukville it will be sweet.

It is their business to arrange it for her.

The embassy accepts agents doing applications. Many people use them to avoid the normal 4 day wait if you do it yourself.
