Is there anyplace I can sell vintage vinyl LP's in BKK?

Featured Replies

Howdy,

I'll be back in BKK in a few weeks. I'm sitting here in my tiny NYC apt, staring at my stack of LP's and thought, "hey, maybe there are record shops in Bangkok that would like some of my records."

I have everything from original 1960's Sinatra, 70's classic rock, country, gypsy and many more.

Does anybody know of shops that are interested in buying records?

It would be pretty easy to stash a dozen lp's in my suitcase.

It could be a fun way to make some walking around money.

Thanks in advance.

I'd go for Ebay while your still in NY.

Surely you would get more than a few baht.

If there is anything valuable there then advertise it a magazine like "Record Collector" where real money can be made. it is big business if you know the market and what some collectors will pay. I have a friend who has spent an small fortune on original pressings , mainly in Blues. If it is run of the mill stuff then try Ebay .

I agree you'll get more in the U.S. on ebay, but if you do happen to bring them to Thailand, there is an indoor Sunday flea market on the top floor of the Pantip 2 building on Ngam Wong Wan Road, near to the Mall. There are LP sellers and buyers every Sunday there.

Thank you for the replies.

I know I can make money on ebay, but frankly, I don't have the interest in selling records online. The taking pics, listing, grading, packing, shipping and dealing with hyper critical record collectors makes my eyeballs bleed.

I've sold books in BKK to Thai shops and loved it.

It allows me to explore the city in a non touristy way, meet local shop keepers and develop relationships with them, then make enough bhat to have some walking around cash. Nothing too great, but enough to cover day to day expenses.

Much more fun and interesting.

Thanks for the info keemapoot. I'll bring about 5-10 lps with me and see what kind of action I can stir up at the market you mentioned.

There are two other shops I know of.

The first is located at Coco Walk beside Ratchatewi BTS.

The second is located in Seacon Square, 3 rd floor in the market section.

If you are lucky you may get 100 baht per LP.

There are a couple of shops in Fortune tower, up on the 3rd level I think, but you would have to look around...towards the hotel end.

Also there have been some record meets and sales etc in the ground floor of a hotel in soi 20....cannot remember name just now, older style, indians love the place and has pizza shop out the front....on right side just inside the soi maybe 100m

NIK studio on 3rd floor of Fortune (and also a Facebook page). Rare records, honest English speaking owner who really knows his stuff.
