PATTAYA:--The Pattaya Police Chief broke down in tears on Wednesday Night as he welcomed back a contingent of specially trained riot officers stationed in Pattaya, who were sent to Bangkok to back-up their Bangkok colleagues in the current unrest occurring in the Thai Capital.

As the group arrived back at Pattaya Police Station they were welcomed by Police Colonel Supachai, the Pattaya Police Chief who could not hide his emotions. Police Sergeant Adun, remains in Bangkok at the Police Hospital after suffering serious injuries. He was visited earlier in the day by the Pattaya Police Chief who travelled to Bangkok to see him.

It seems that Banglamung Police have paid a heavy price in the last few days.
I may not have the greatest respect for the Thai Police in general. But in this context I do, would you go and put yourself in that position for the shitty wages they get paid.
It gets a bit closer to home when these are people who I or my wife know and or are friends, colleges of people we know. They get RESPECT from me for what they are doing in BKK.
If you ask me it is time to send in the Army and clear the streets of this mob, Can't win an election then tough luck, try again next time.

The Royal Thai Police later released a statement confirming that the police officer wounded by the unidentified gunfire has died. He is named as Police Lance Corporal Pongsakorn Saengklom, a squad commander from Banglamung Police Station.

According to the police statement, 10 police officers are also wounded by the explosive attacks near the protesters′ barricades at Phanfa Bridge; two of the wounded officers are reportedly in severe condition.

Most of the injured officers are from Chonburi province, the police statement said, while the rest are from Chantaburi province.

So that is a minimum 1 dead and 6 injured, at least 1 very severely from Banglamung Police.

I can agree with much of what you say. However, it can be noted that Cholburi and Pattaya in particular are predominantly "red shirt" sympathetic. The current police chief thanked such factions at his official welcome event and prior chiefs were appointed for their support for earlier "red shirt" activities. So to see that riot police were sent from Cholburi and/or Pattaya suggests political overtones that put these particular policemen into the situation to begin with. All of it is very sad and regrettable and sympathies to all who have to live with the resultant tragedies.
