May 30, 200620 yr Hi. Has Pattaya, Jomtien, beaches always been so narrow? I mean the distance between the high tide mark, and the road, or vegetation line. Has the beach been shrinking over the years? Does it wax and wane seasonally? Or I suppose I should say ebb and ?

May 30, 200620 yr Sometimes you can walk out maybe half a mile or more. Dunno how that works but it does. As far as I can remember (13 years), the width of the beaches of both Pattaya and Jomtien have always been as they are now. Exceptional spring tides (nothing to do with the season) cause very high tides and very low tides.

May 30, 200620 yr If you want to know what tide to expect at a certain time, check out following links: Koh Si Chang tide Sattahip tide Pattaya is in between these locations, so although both will always differ a bit, it'll still be a good approximation. These tides are never 100% correct, they are calculated based on the influence of the sun and the moon (which Artisan's graphic demonstrates quite good), but other unpredictable things influence the tides also, like strong winds, deppresions, etc...
May 30, 200620 yr Pardon me please, I'm your neighbor across the Gulf. That website doesn't seem to have anything for the west coast, such as Hua Hin. Any idea if there is a website for that?
May 30, 200620 yr Hi PeaceBlondie, The closest for you would be Tachin (Samut Sakhon)... Tachin tide If you compare the tides of Tachin and Ko Si Chang, you'll see there is almost no difference at all, so you can use Tachin as a reference for the Hua Hin / Cha Am area... As I said before, these predictions are not exact anyway, and should only be used as a rough guideline... They are however almost always spot on for indicating at what time the tide will turn...

And I thought all of that revolved around Thaksin, not the sun.
May 31, 200620 yr And I thought all of that revolved around Thaksin, not the sun. I thought Toxin and the Sun were the same thing, here at least ? B.o.T. In the years (13+) I've travelled/lived here, I seem to recall the beaches being about the same as they are now, maybe a little cleaner now (in some places, on some days ).
May 31, 200620 yr I think that the sand is definately cleaner that say 10 -12 years ago when at every low tide the end of the sewer pipe could be seen pumping the sh1t into the Gulf. (I believe they extended it further out so that the tide will take it away to Ban Saeng or somewhere) As to the high tide being higher, well I think the low tide is much lower. You can walk out for a h.ell of a distance now. I think this is a result of the dumping of huge quantities of beach sand at the very North end a few years ago. I remember bulldozers and trucks were there for days if not weeks.
May 31, 200620 yr I would think Pattaya has been the same for some years, but Jomtien has been eaten away by the road and parking bays. Has anyone else noted the way the tide only comes and goes ONCE a day in Pattaya? Must be some effect of the Gulf of Thailand.
