THAI POLITICAL CHAOS
UN chief ready to assist anyway possible : spokesman

BANGKOK: -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has again offered his help to end political conflicts and violence in Thailand.

Ban’s spokesman said Ban "expresses his readiness to assist Thailand and the Thai people in any way possible."

His statement came shortly after caretaker Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tohvichakchaikul said he would seek assistance from Ban. Surapong said yesterday he had spoken with UN chief to discuss ways out of the current political crisis.

Ban himself offered his assistance to Thailand on several occassions, including talking to caretaker premier Yingluck Shinawatra and opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, to end the increasing political violence that claimed at least 22 victims including four children.

His spokesman quoted Ban as uring the parties in conflicts to engage as soon as possible in meaningful and inclusive dialogue toward ending the crisis and advancing genuine reform.

Ban is "increasingly concerned about the political crisis in Thailand. He has condemned the recent escalation of violence in different parts of the country."

He "believes strongly that there should be no place for violence by any side in resolving political differences and disputes." He urged the parties and all concerned to respect human rights and the rule of law.

The UN has no knowledge of the true historical issues in Thailand. Thailand has to admit its own defeat and recognize the truth. You can't solve the problem if you don't recognize your own issues and speak openly about them. If the UN gets involved, the Thais will point a finger at the UN for interfering the next time they have a conflict.

This is Thailand, a country with its own unique ethics and culture. The UN is on the other side of the world; with their own cultures and ethics.

Looking back on history, I don’t think that Thais are capable of non-violent conclusions on any political or domestic situations.

I think most people that are sick and tired of Yingluck and her cabinet full of criminals will support an independent mediator like this. The problem is that the UN will not be allowed to critisize anything the current government has done, since than the United front that supports dictatorship will start wining again that the UN is biased, and are a bunch of elite facist (as this is the only argument they can make these days).

Surapong knows this of course also. He's just putting up a show, and a bad one at that....

More asian Countries in the UN than one might think.

Asia-Pacific Group

The Asia-Pacific Group (formerly the Asian Group) has 53 members (27.5% of all UN members) and is the second largest regional group by number of member states (one fewer than the African Group).

Impressive list - but what has that got to do with anything and just how can he help resolve matters??

You can't solve the problem if you don't recognize your own issues and speak openly about them. If the UN gets involved, the Thais will point a finger at the UN for interfering the next time they have a conflict.

The UN knows exactly what is going on politically in Thailand, and they also know all the details of the current street protest problems, and the purpose for it.

The large sized major UN Building in New York has all the details of countries with political problems that are resulting in violence.

The UN may be able to help in some way the current political problems in Thailand, but they will not be able to solve it, because this is entirely a matter to be sorted and solved by the two opposition parties, that is to say between "Yingluck and Abhisit", and lets hope it will happen.

if they know all about it then why do they all follow this 'they must be allowed to have elections to preserve democracy' and why do they fail to recognise the rice scam problems as well as every single disastrous populist policy that has succeeded in destroying Thailand's reputation??

They don't understand a thing about Thailand's problems, not a thing. They are useless to the extreme and only have one model of democracy, which is highly flawed (as Thailand shows) with what the PTP has done to democracy (in the name of democracy only).

No, we don't want Ban-Ki-Moon to make matters worse by interfering.

The UN is an intelligent international setup and their duty is to deal with all nations that have political problems that cause damages to the public, problems in Asia are dealt with by Asian officials of the UN, as a matter of fact the current UN Boss Ban-Ki-Moon is from South Korea, and knows Asian countries politically well.

UN matters can not be regarded as worse because they are not forcefully interfering in Thailand, they are advising in a polite manner in order to help Thailand solving their ongoing political problems.

The UN has in the past forcefully dealt via military action in several Middle-East countries in order to end those terrible civil wars that killed the public massively.

The UN will never deal with Thailand in a forceful manner, UN boss Ban-Ki-Moon is a fellow Asian and will merely offer useful advice in order to help Thailand solving their political problems.
