One side wants open debate

One side wants SECRET talks

hahahahahahahahahahah

Rubbish. You missed the point. A debate was not requested by Suthep. He wanted to televise the negotiations. Not the same thing.

Yes it was the PTP that said it would be debate

and after realising what they had said

said we not want a debate,, ( could reveal to much to the thai people)

All this talk about debate with Bully Boy Suthep is a load of crap! He is a nobody with no authority whatsoever. The thing Yingluck needs to tell him is to go jump in the Chao Praya, preferably wearing a pair of concrete boots. Where is the other gutless soul Khun Abisit, has anyone noticed how quiet and distance he remains from the Bully Boy Suthep. He is no fool, he knows that Bully Boy is trying to push a barrow up hill with no hope of reaching the top, and is staying right out of it.

Well, Mr Surapong, debate or not, Yingluck is, supposedly, Thailand's political leader. Hence, it is to be expected that she should be able to hold her own in a one-on-one discussion. Any debate involving Chalerm or Jatuporn would inevitably degenerate into a garbled melee. Come to that, why don't you accept Suthep's challenge on behalf of Yingluck?

Nice to see how the Bully Boy supporters are wanting weaker debaters or characters to debate Bully Boy Suthep but not a person such as Jutaporn. Fact is , they are scared stiff about meeting anyone but Yingluck or Surapong, just shows what a gutless mob they are. Its easy to attack all but the toughest of women, what Thailand needs is another Maggie Thatcher in the government.

Surapong's main message is correct: a public debate will do nothing to solve the conflict. Discussions mediated by the UN is the only way forward at this point.

old irish joke converted to thai,

why is semen white and urine yellow ?

so a thai can tell if he is cumming or going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

think about it

but dogs are colour blind ......... :D

How can they let Suthep debate with a drunk or a Jatuporn, who has nothing to say about this country

suthep is another scumbag and at least partially resonsible for all the combined deaths so far at "protest sites"

,he should have no equal rights to talk on behalf on thailand to the PM or anyone else

Gee mate....what are you saying....Yingluck is a weak leader? If that's the case, elect the strongest leader you have. Isn't that is what is normally done? Then bring on the debate.

The old saying....put up or shut up.

Then put the televised debate out there for all to see - not only in Isaan but to the wider audience in Asia and the world. I reckon a few of the ASEAN "partners" will get a good chuckle

The PTP hasn't got any capable leaders - talkers, yes, but leaders, absolutely not!!!

Mr Surapong further said that if Mr Suthep really wanted a public debate then the latter should better challenge Chalerm Yubamrung, director of Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order, or red-shirt core leader Jatuporn Promphan which would be a better match instead of Ms Yingluck who could not match Mr Suthep anyway.

Two things about this:

1 why should Suthep have a debate with Chalerm of Jatuporn? Are they the leaders of this govt?

2 Even Surapong admits that Yingluck is no match for Suthep...

It shows the trust the PT has in their dear leader.smile.png

Likewise, why should Yingluck have a debate with Bully Boy Suthep, Is he leader of the opposition ?.

Both Bully Boy and Jutaporn have very little office, Jutaporn is a party spokesman but Bully Boy a nobody.

Yep ! Bully Boy how about a chat with Jutaporn, or are you too gutless for that and only take on weaker women.

So you are saying she is a weak woman. Fair enough, most people would agree with you there.

There is nothing wrong with having a woman in the top job if she has the credentials, far from it. They can be as tough as any man. Margaret Thatcher scared the b'jesus out of most of her opponents and who would fancy going head to head with Angela Merkel.

It's not her fault but Yingluck simply hasn't got what it takes and even she knows it.

The majority electorate would beg to differ.

To suggest "...you are saying she is a weak woman. Fair enough, most people would agree with you there" is easily disproven.

There is a very objective and measurable standard in the form of an election, to disprove the point about "most people". .

Not often can an opinion be so completely and objectively refuted.

" ... instead of Ms Yingluck who could not match Mr Suthep anyway. "

A startling ( though unsurprising ) admission. If this is the best Surapong and Thaksin can come up with to save face, it's pretty sad. Yingluck backed away from her own invitation. A one on one with Yingluck in front of live TV for every citizen in the country to view would be appropriate. And it is particularly appropriate to have that conversation with the prime minister of the country. Somehow suggesting a star of red shirt TV or a man more devoted to night-caps doesn't quite do it. It will be fascinating when Ki-moon asks if talks had been initiated, only to find Surpapong saying " Well, yes, but it was wholly inappropriate to have the prime minister herself debate Suthep, you understand. Much better to have someone more representative who is calling for the eradication of the independent agencies of checks and balances. "

She has offered talks to resolve the political divide since the beginning of his insurrection.. He has flatly refused... repeatedly... it''s never gonna happen and is ridiculous to even banter about really...imagine the dynamics of getting Suthep in a chair or at a podium with his 500 nannies all around him...? not gonna happen..no matter how you filter it..or try to spin it.. I'd be for it though so they could get this guy in a room and get the cuffs on him..

You obviously don't understand the art of negotiations. To succeed you need to start from a position of strength. Firstly you refuse the first few offers for talks and their attendant preconditions. When your opponent looks ,to be weakening in resolve then you make your offer to talk, with your own preconditions, knowing full well that the answer will be NO, with maybe an added but. That is where the situation is now. There will probably be a few more offers and rebuttals before talks are, we hope, agreed and duly take place.

Art of negotiation? Art? Do you understand you are talking about people who missed the evolution express because it was full of orangutans and tadpoles?
