Have you guys tried to run Firefox in Safe Mode

Click Help , Restart with Add-ons disabled

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Or create a new Firefox profile and try with the new profile.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

I just did a Firefox restart in the safe mode and it leapt into life with the add-ons disabled.

Now which one or more of those nasty little buggers caused the problems?

Edit

I have disabled them all and I will try again in the morning.

^ it could also be a combination of add-ons. For example my GPS add-on (needed for communication with my GPS and some websites) and my download manager add-on refuse to work together. So because I don't need the GPS add-on that much I just created a separate Firefox profile which will only start that specific add-on, and in the other profiles this add-on is disabled.

To create separate profiles, just look at the 2nd link in my original post

Sent from my iPad, so please excuse any typos

I got some adverts this morning so I activated Adblock plus and AD block and the ads have now stopped and the speed is just as it used to be.

I also have but disabled

Accelerate tab 1.4.2

Advanced system care surfing protection 1.0

Avast online security 9.0.2013. 75

Garmin communicator 4.0.4

PDF Architect converter for Firefox 1.0

Skype click to call 6.11.0.13307

ps. i did notice that AVAST causes major issues on some sites. i have AVAST. example, using WETRANSFER (which i use often) is impossible with AVAST now. i mailed WETRANSFER and they say there's nothing they can do and suggested to use another antivirus.
