AOT confident in achieving annual revenue target

BANGKOK, 5 March 2014 (NNT) – Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) is adamant its 2014 revenue target will be met although the ongoing political turmoil has pulled down the number of travelers at the two Bangkok airports.

AOT Chairman Sita Divari stated that, despite the impact from Thai politics, he was confident the company would be able to earn a profit of 11 billion baht this year as targeted. Nonetheless, he admitted that if the political unrest dragged on further, more losses could be incurred.

The chairman indicated that the number of passengers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in January and February had declined by 9% from the usual figure of 53 million persons a year. Don Mueang Airport has also witnessed a similar drop.

On the other hand, since political protests are concentrated in Bangkok, many travelers have diverted their destinations elsewhere.

As a result, Chiang Mai Airport has seen a rise in passenger number of 66% while a 13% increase was recorded at Mae Fah Luang Airport of Chiang Rai, 10% at Phuket Airport and 5% at Hat Yai Airport of Songkhla.

AoT rich enough to purchase government bond but still planing to increase airport tax domestic and international ,passangers don't much facilities except some toilets and duty free shop, the taxes should be built more runway and terminal to reduce flight delay and repair works can be done.

Many times I personally encounter terminal are full and needed to take buses to immigration main terminal not only budget airline but Thai airways too which very inconvience for elderly and children to walk down staircase.

These two agencies should be abolished--written off-disbanded. 2 new setups private companies with no political connections.

One of the biggest glaring money making practices at Swampy airport is the appointed desk who collects 50 baht from every customer that wishes to hire a taxi---FOR WHAT and what reason ???

A normal aisle -queue-next taxi next customer. simple. Total bare faced rip off. My guess is someone with connections is making mega Baht out of tourists.

SCRAP the desks. Tourists should ignore the desks and queue -refuse to pay the rip off. Try to think of how much money is passing through this in one day and X that by 365.

I pointed this one item out, together with King power another DUTY FREE rip off monopoly. AOT control the airport scams.
