There seems to be no restriction as far as the growth of the global tourism industry is concerned, and countries like Thailand have spearheaded that growth for a number of decades. Between January and September 2013 revenue generated by tourism in Thailand increased by 23% over the same period the year before, and despite a number of obstacles tourism continues to make a healthy contribution to the Thai economy. Tourism though must be considered in the global context, and the BTEC HND in Travel and Tourism takes a practical approach that considers tourism from a global perspective.

The first semester of the BTEC HND course provides a broad perspective of the travel and tourism sector and considers finance and funding in the sector. The course also considers aspects on marketing for travel and tourism. In the second semester the course investigates contemporary issues in travel and tourism and looks at sustainable tourism development, legislation and industry ethics. The third semester sees students involved in a research project while the following semester considers entrepreneurship within the industry and tour operations management. The penultimate semester views issues related to heritage and cultural tourism management, domestic tourism, visitor attraction management, and looks into personal and professional development. The final semester sees students involved in gaining work-based experience.
