Udon Thani(airport) To Nong Khai(border)

Featured Replies

Could anyone tell me how far it is from Udon Thani(Airport) To Nong Khai(Border) and how would I get there.

If by bus, are they regular/how long.

If by taxi, how much/how long.

Cheers

As I recall about 60Kms, bus service is regular never taken it but I would imagine with stops an hour and half. I also beleive there are two trains each day.

When you arrive get a tuk tuk at the airport to take you to the bus depot by Lotus. You can get a bus to Nong Kia there. There are two other bus station but I don't know about thier connections.

I don't know if the bus goes to the friendship bridge crossing or not. But in any event, a short tuk tuk ride anyway.

I've never done it by bus, hope this helps probably better ways but I have no diea since I haven't done it :o

Somtaran - A certain thing to do would be to fly into Udon Thani, spend the night, and catch the train which leaves weekdays Udon Thani to Nong Khai about 8 AM. About another 45 minutes or so from UT to Nong Khai.

The Nong Khai train station is much closer to the Friendship Bridge than the NK bus station--and to the NK Thai Immigration office which is NOT at the bridge but nearby. Train will cost you 3rd class about 30 Baht. Tuk-Tuk from the train staion to the bridge or immigration office about 20 Baht--less than 5 minutes tuk-tuk ride for either.

Done the routine many times. I've also WALKED a few times from the bridge or immigration to the train station when I had the time and just wanted the exercise. Told the tuk-tuk drivers to forget it.

15 day Lao visa-upon-arrival at the Lao side of the bridge. $30 US or roughly the Thai equivalent (1400 Baht?). Make sure you have a passport-type photo or get one on the Thai side BEFORE exiting through Thailand embarkation. Loads of photo shops near the bridge on the Thai side -- NONE on the Lao side. Of course, the shops will all try to get you to hire them to help you with your Lao visa. Not necessary.

To get to Thai NK immigration office, when you hit a 'T' in the road after making a Left upon exiting the train station road (about 400 metres after the Left turn to the 'T'), you turn RIGHT to go to the bridge (you can see the bridge); Turn LEFT at the 'T' to get to the immigration office. About 1km and on the Left.

I actually do this trip quite a bit - what I always do is take the airport

limo from Udon to Nong Khai. It's a bit more expensive (100 baht?),

but it leaves directly from the airport as soon as the limo fills up, usually

within 20 minutes of when you land. So, you'll be in Nong Khai about an

hour or so after you land in Udon. Plus, they will usually drop you off

wherever you want to go in Nong Khai.

To find the limo, just ask at information when you get off the plane. If

you don't speak Thai, there are usually a few people who speak English

who can direct you to the limo.

Hope this helps!
