Do you just wake up one morning and think...yep, thats what I wanna do...

Unfortunately no, I am not an adventurer of that kind, doing research on this for a very long time in different countries......now here in Thailand smile.png

Sounds great. Please see attached file and get in touch with the United Nations, seems to make perfect sense to me.

Contact info: http://www.unaids.org/en/regionscountries/countries/thailand/

Good luck and please keep us informed as I know quite a few infected people I'm helping in lower north east. Keep it up, please.-wai2.gif

Why do you want to do this and why are you asking this forum ? You are better off taking a well educated Thai with you to the Min.of Health. If there are perfectly good free HIV sevices about why do you want to charge for the same service ?

errrr.... maybe because this is a forum where people can ask for help.... DUH!

Sorry that was a bit harsh, but "why are you asking on this forum?" the reason is obvious, and that's not a nice attitude to take when someone is asking for genuine information advice, and also on the subject of helping sick and distressed people.

The OP wants to set up a fee paying service for something that is widely available as a free service, - because there is money to be made. Nothing wrong with that in principle, but this is not a humanitarian gesture to respond to the growing problem of HIV in Thailand. The motivation behind this is not clear.

If he can provide a special service with following free medical care through getting the right contacts, there's nothing wrong to ask for a few baht. Would be great if that would exist in northeast and up country.

The Red Cross does an excellent job with this LOW OR NO Cost clinic situation.

Unless you are a physician with training in HIV and dedicated to helping people.....GET

LOST....no money in it !!!

Maybe you should read my earlier statements.

This is setup as an NGO who is a NPO (non profit organisation) = no money in it!!

Why so hostile

Where do you think the funding comes from to give the Red Cross the opportunity to give these low cost services?

With all due respect, why so hostile?

Great in principle but a mountain to climb. If you are giving/selling drugs, MDs will need to prescribe them. Counsellors will need to give advice to the newly-diagnosed...along with follow-up. Nurses will be on-hand to take blood and do nursing care. For the very ill who have AIDS (not HIV), you need to provide in-patient beds or else be able to refer to a facility that does.

You will need some kind of licence from MoH, and you will need to conform with the "Thai FDA" range of drugs allowed. Overall, a lot of research to carry out before you can open yr clinic.

Thanks for the info! Contacts are already been made with various related organisations, including UNAIDS......

I agree and I am doing research here in Thailand since November 2012, this is not a fly by night operation.

All drugs are FDA AND WHO approved.

I you have " the professionals on my staff who are "specialized" HIV/Aids MD's here in Thailand."

Any Thai qualified MD knows how to open a clinic and if not knows where to obtain the required information.

Why are are you asking questions here?

I am a person who ALWAYS look for second, 3rd and even 4th opinions in these matters, this is Asia, not Europe or the US......

Maybe you are right, maybe this is not the place to try to ask advise......is it?!

As explained before, this is a NGO/NPO!

What is your motivation when you give your change to the homeless in the street? I do it without the need of any motivation, you?

Correct !

It is extremely unlikely that you will find any "expert " advice here.

Why not just ask the " specialized" HIV/Aids MD's on your staff?

For better responses you could try the Heath Forum where there are a number of well informed professional people with long experience of health care in Thailand

No, he woke up one morning and wondered, "What's a good way I might sell some meds?"

Look at his sig...

It depends how you look at my signature......but thanks for the input for possible misunderstandings.

Fyi, FDA brand drugs are offered here at 10% from what they are quoted in the US and Europe.

Why do people come to Thailand for medical services/medication shopping?

Duly noted!!

But you know, when I visit Thaivisa forums, I pick the topics that I am interested in, the others I do not waste my time with nor do I give comments on them. It is up to the forum webmaster to decide when your topic is acceptable here or not.

FYI, I am also on these health forums that you mentioned, but I look in every corner, sometimes you do get valuable advise from unexpected sides...."specialists" do not always spend all their time on "their" forums, they do wonder of for other interesting topics, as they are human as we all are ...... with all due repect .

I worked with homeless people for 7 years in London - to help them not to be homeless. This has nothing to do with homeless people

The commercial tone of the sig and that suspect avatar pic lead me to believe this isn't a purely altruistic venture.

Nothing wrong with commercial enterprise mind you, but in this topic area in particular should really be as transparent as possible.

For example sure seems to be a huge but illegitimate opportunity to exploit that huge gap between Western and third-world pricing in the retroviral meds, and there is so little effective oversight here.

Just expressing my gut feelings here, of course everything may well be on the up-and-up.

You really make me laugh this time!!

"suspect avatar pic" ???? Have you ever looked at the other ones here, when there is one at all ??

You can meet me anytime in Bangkok, this is my picture, like it or not......:)

Good night :)

Why do people come to Thailand for medical services/medication shopping?

Which FDA? USA or Thai?

If you are a professional, then should be aware that the newer HIV medications manufactured at reliable facilities are not readily available in Thailand. That is why people with the means, often go elsewhere for their HIV medications. Thailand has regulations that impose a lengthy and bureaucratic nightmare permit process that force pharmaceutical companies to disclose proprietary information. Aside from it causing the companies with newer drugs to avoid the Thai market, for those companies with a drug that's been in the market for some time, it can take a year or more to get a drug approved just for this permit. That leaves a pool of generics available to the typical Thai who is not of the financial means to purchase the novel drugs. The health plan requires that the generics be purchased through one of the existing portals, and that means your clinic would have to be approved and incorporated into the current health system. That's a hard slog. If you are associated with a reputable NGO such as the Clinton or the M&B Gates entities, then it will be easier. If not, it will be a frustrating exercise.

US FDA and Thai FDA, Your information is up to date and correct, but there are also the "access programs" installed by the leading US and Canadian manufacturers such as Gilead and others. The Red cross here is offering them side by side with other generic ones that are manufacturer

under license and approval of the Thai Government.... Thanks for the feedback!

If your clinic would be focusing on tourists and foreigners it would be a good idea! But why not hiring an translator and visit some government departments?
