Cell Phones Keep Fallin' on My Head............(almost). And, Now What?

Featured Replies

Recently, I found my second cell phone in the road. It works. But, now what?

Of course I won't keep it, it is not mine,

And, it is not a Samsung S4.

So, someone suggested holding on to it in case the owner calls and she is beautiful, and young, and rich.

The odds are not great on this one because this looks like one of those 1000Baht jobs.

Obviously, the above is just a preamble to the question I want to ask, which is:

1. What would you do if you had phones falling in the road around you semiannually?

2. Would you go to the TROUBLE of trying to locate the rightful owner? And how would you if the phone is locked?

3. Where should I turn it in?

4. Are there any legal issues I should be aware of? Because I have heard that Sim cards can be a touchy issue when lost.

ANYWAY, I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THERE might be any ramifications involved depending and according to how I handle this cell phone finding fix I now face.

Would it be best to give it to the authorities? And who might they be?

And, I am thinking this must belong to an American, because in my experience it is mostly the American students who tend to drop things all over the place, not just in Thailand, but I mean ALLL OVER the place. This is my experience in life that Americans who are friends of mine in every respect are also NUMBER ONE in losing cell phones, or just plain throwing them away, which might be the case here, too.

I mean.......

How am I or anyone to say if this phone was not just owned by an American that tired of it as usual and decided to cause me a little extra grief and heartburn and wasted minutes in my short and unfair life, just by seeing me walking down the road and tossing it out just ahead of me where he knew I would surely see it, and pick it up, and worry over it, because he may even know me and know that I am very kind hearted.

So, all good advice is welcome here.

AND unless I hear from you guys, I am going to handle this my own way tomorrow, but I hope for advice.

That is right: Actually I found this little white phone yesterday,

And I don't know what I should do tomorrow morning.

Thank you.

While you are thinking up some good advice,

You might also be listening to this good song about things falling out of the sky:

Use the simcard to find numbers and just call them.

Use the simcard to find numbers and just call them.

I think they are locked, or maybe the numbers are not on the Sim, but on the phone memory.

I suggest, that unless you really feel broed and want to play detective ( and said phone is not your desire)...just live the damn thing where it is, and let someone else with the time and desire work out what to do with it! :)

You are EXACTLY right!

Now, I really feel like a fool for picking it up, because I am sort of beginning to feel responsible for it, or a sense of having this thing put in my possession for safe keeping. It is my obligation to do the right thing? I am sure it is not.

Why did I pick it up? I was just curious and now glad it was not booby trapped or a land mine, or something.

Or, maybe it is a booby trap!

Anyway, yes, I now feel like a fool, because this is going to cost me over an hour of my time, at the VERY LEAST!!!!

Next time........Never!

Hubby looses his mobile phone at least twice a year. Of course, we call it repeatedly and usually someone answers. Our request is to take it into a nearby business and ask them to hold it so we can come claim it. Of course, he doesn't carry a phone that costs more than 1000 baht.

Incidentally, if we don't find the phone within a day, it's not that hard to file a police report, and go to DTAC number transferred to another phone. What is lost is the directory, but he now copies all the numbers in his directory every quarter, so it isn't such a big deal if the phone is lost.

No he isn't trying to cause worry when he drops it -- he's just careless.

give local police as you would in what ever part of the planet you come from. Thanks for the reminder why i only look TV occasionally now.

TO ALL GOOD COMMENTERS HERE:

I have already returned the phone to the rightful owner today, who had a big smile (genuine) when I did so.

3 hours input on my part

Who knows if it is better to give than receive

But......

Just glad this is over with now.

TKs for the help, everyone.

TaTa..........

Until the next time a phone falls on my head in beautiful Thailand

(and, in case you might think I was "making this up", you would be wrong. I found a phone. I returned a phone. Case Closed)

This is the real reason I was so anxious to return this cheap phone to the owner, because I did not want the owner to go through the trouble of filing police reports, and who knows what.

I just hope that someone will do the same for me if I lose my phone, which would be a once in a 2.5 decade disaster in my case.

The last time I lost a cell phone, it was one of those huge Motorola Bricks you see in Old Movies today.

Very heavy and hard to lose, but I did.

That's very considerate of you.

Every time Hubby has lost his mobile, it's been when he's out drinking with his buddies and he realizes he's much later than he said he'd be, so he calls me to say he's on his way home. (Yeah, right) Then he messes up getting the phone back into the case on belt and it ends up on the footpath or the floor of the bar. So, I guess I didn't have much sympathy for him the couple times no one ever answered the missing phone and he had to go to the police station to file a report in order to reclaim the phone number from the SIM when he bought a new phone. Fortunately, most of the time when this happens some kindly bar girl answers the phone on the floor when I call and puts the phone behind the bar for safekeeping.
