I wonder, is there an information about how early it is possible to apply for visa extension? Say a person enters Thailand with a tourist visa and goes to the immigration office the same day to get a 30-day extension so that he doesn't have to worry about visa issues for 90 days. Is it possible?

The you cannot get the extension until you you have only 30 days remaining on your entry. There are some offices that have been reported as not doing them until you have 2 weeks remaining.
