BANGKOK, March 24 - The Thai Election Commission (EC) met today to discuss preparations for a new general election after the charter court ruled Friday to annul the Feb 2 nationwide balloting results.

The EC hoped to reach a conclusion on how to deal with the new election.

It said earlier it would have to have alternatives before organising the election -- whether to meet with the caretaker government for consultation, or to invite all political parties for talks to reach an agreement.

The Constitution Court voted six against three to nullify the general election, compelling the EC to hold a new one. The EC claimed that the caretaker government will have to foot the expenses for the next polls since it refused to heed to the EC's recommendation to postpone the unready balloting in relation to the Feb 2 date.

Meanwhile, members of the ruling Pheu Thai Party said they would dress in black to attend the party's meeting tomorrow to show their dissatisfaction with the Constitution Court's ruling.

The anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee announced a Bangkok march from its Lumpini Park rally site to the Royal Plaza on Saturday to emphasise its demand for the appointment of an interim government to lead national reform before a general election is held. (MCOT online news)

Is Yingluck still the acting PM?

I though the plan for to have Suthep appointee to be the acting PM once the court has ruled, until the country is fully reformed?

That was only if the minds of PTP backers

They are convinced every one will believe any B.S they say

There is really something odd going on here. The " administration " should be talking about an election, meeting with the EC, arranging dates, coordinating plans. None of that is happening. Pheu Thai has apparently retired to a distant planet, while the EC calmly occupy a different, more blissful reality. Pheu Thai wants the EC replaced. They want them sued. And they want to spend an appropriate amount of time banging their head against the wall over the Constitutional Court ruling - under the hope that if they do that long enough the ruling might somehow magically change. One thing is clear - unless Pheu Thai stops the ranting and raving, decides to work with the EC, decides to respect the EC - as the constitutionally protected agency should - and decides to talk and plan with the EC - this election isn't happening anytime soon.

Another 4billion Baht of taxpayers money to go down the drain.sad.png

Its not your money, and all they are doing is their job. There is probably that amount Nick's from the public purse every week for doing nothing good.

At least holding elections is a good positive thing to do.

Well going back to a committee isn't progress as far as I am.concerned. this very same type of expert academic bunch produced the 07 constitution . if that isn't the worst bit of law ever.

Every act needs an interpretation. I don't trust Suthep any more than Yingluck, but at least with Yingluck you can vote her out.

"The EC claimed that the caretaker government will have to foot the expenses for the next polls since it refused to heed to the EC's recommendation to postpone the unready balloting in relation to the Feb 2 date."

The Court previously ruled that the schedule for the elections required BOTH EC and government to agree. But the EC gave in to the Government's argument to hold the election on Feb 2nd. So how does the EC figure the cost of the election should be borne soley by the government? It should be 50/50 as a minimum. The EC could have simply said no to the government until it felt time was right.

This attempt to make black appear to be white, and vice-versa is confusing.

Suggesting the side opposing coup's and advocating elections, in the face of electorally-challenged coup-mongers both now and in 2010, are a threat to Democracy, is truly baffling.

I could enunciate more such reality-checks, but I think one will suffice to make my point.
