Place next door to Panthip Plaza (Smile) - good and surprisingly cheap.

Place in Airport Plaza next to Robinson (2nd or 3rd floor - had a broken tooth pulled there - rear molar - x-rays, two rounds or novocaine (I'm somewhat resistant - they never believe me - so I always end up with two sets of injections - oh joy!), came out in four parts and took almost an hour and a lot of sweat on the poor guys forehead :) - total cost, 1,000 baht!

Also place Frank James mentioned above - went there several years ago - good and cheap - but same price as the other two I mentioned, and they are more convenient for me. Although he is the cheapest for veneers that I have found (family member needed after tooth damage from bicycle accident - not bad enough for caps - so cosmetic - two front teeth, 2,000 baht total)

Dr. Ponsakorn on Moon Muang St. Down the street from Mad Dog, three blocks from Thapae gate. Good dentist, clean office, fair prices.

Pongsakorn, sorry.

OP, use the TV Chiang Mai search function. Many good recommendations tending to the more costly side that is "comfortable" for foreigners. Basically, dental care in Chiang Mai is very cheap to comparatively cheap (certainly to prices abroad). You can get a wisdom tooth pulled quite competently for 500 bhat including medicine or three (or more) times that cost. The problem generally seems to be for people who ask here how many "white people" are sitting in the waiting room, not the competence of the dentists.

Does anyone have experience with the CDC Dental Clinic at Raumchok Plaza? My wife and I have had minor fillings and a cleaning done there, relatively cheaply with no complaints. I now think I need more serious work done, such as a root canal and crown, and not sure how they are with these types of procedures. The searching I have done seem to point towards Grace Dental clinic as a good clinic for this type of work.

For minor procedures, I have no problem recommending the CDC Dental Clinic to the OP. One filling was 800 baht, and I got four small fillings at one sitting for 2,800 baht. I have not been to any other dental clinics here, so don't know how these prices compare.

Dr. Supachi, Big Smile Dental clinic (http://www.bigsmile-chiangmai.com/) is great.

Suggest staying away from RAM - expensive and not all that competent.

Wow! That's a sweeping statement. I guess you must be qualified to make such an allegation?

To the contrary, I found my extensive treatment very professional, the dentist I had was USA qualified, but as I warned, it's not the cheapest.

The experts were on hand, from X-ray to Dental Surgeon.

To each his own... You're obviously the expert here with that many posts to your credit.

Elite Smile, Pantip Plaza, one of the very best in town.

This practice comprises about eight dentists covering all aspects of dentistry and related fields, one of the lead dentists is an instructor at CMU school of dentistry where they often refer patients with special needs and /or those requiring oral CT scans. I've been using them for about two years and I'm really pleased with the quality of their work, they were able to successfully diagnose a problem with my tongue (glositis) which ENT specialists at RAM and Sriphat had been unable to do. Not expensive.

Grace will cost you an arm and a leg. My father came over year before last and had a bridge, gold caps, tooth rebuild, and root canal at Smile (next door to Panthip) it all cost 76k, but that was because he needed several teeth capped and chose the high content gold (most expensive) - the bridge also needed to cross 4 teeth and as the rear tooth to attach it to was not strong enough, they had to do a lot of work on that to. He had about six treatments over a month - in the UK it would have cost upwards of 14k GBP for similar work private (couldn't get it on NHS to the same quality - gold caps etc). Anyway, work was very good - unlike Grace they didn't push for the more expensive (and unnecessary stuff), and were happy to suggest stainless steel caps (bottom rung), explained everything, gave all costs up front (even checking the price of gold for him on the day they ordered it so he could see any changes) - he is very happy with the price, treatment and results.

Best endodontist I've had and hopefully she will return after the maternity thing.

I guess her position at Nakornping Hospital will take priority.

This is the doctor who does teeth cleaning, an odd role you might think for someone who is an instructor at CMU Dental School. But she's the one who identifies all the problems and then assigns the work to the various dentists, she's is really switched on and hugely knowledgeable, a nice lady also:

BTW, most of the dentists there were trained by Dr Varaporn at RAM when she was an instructor at CMU.

Hello dear CM Fellows,

Here is my report on the dentist experience:

I have finally made it to the dentist and my choice is Dr. Arunothai Devahastin at Arunothai Dental Clinic, directly near Chang Puak (100 Changpuak Rd.). I have no personal business interests, but in my opinion he's a good dentist to affordable prices.

When you enter his surgery you have NO fancy waiting room with free wifi and flatscreen TV, NO sexy receptionist taking your personal data and asking for your picture to be taken prior examination. The somewhat elderly guy is running the surgery together with his wife and another dentist. His equipment has come into its ages but is nevertheless fully functional. The Doctor is fluent and English and German(!). I felt that that the Doctor advised me very well and that in no way he was just trying to rip me off. During treatment he was very gentle and I felt that he was very skillful with his work.

I ended up with a bill of 1,000 Baht for one large Amalgam filling and 700 Baht for on smaller filling with the white stuff. Cleaning was not necessary in my case. I would come back to that dentist at any time and will bring all of my family members there as well.

"His equipment has come into its ages but is nevertheless fully functional."

Thanks, that's all I need to know to be warned to never go there!

We all have different opinions I guess. The most modern equipment doesn't help if the dentist isn't any good. My remarks about such a dentist which is frequently recommended on here, have been removed in my last post for apparently being too negative. I am sorry if this was the case.

I therefore feel that my thread cannot contribute anything else positive to this forum. Before the arguments start flying could some Mod please CLOSE this thread? Thank you.

I've been there a few times in the last couple of weeks. There are a number of other dentists there as well. It's a little confusing because there are placards on the doors with the names and photos of the dentists but other dentists share their treatment rooms with them when they are not there, so a couple of times I wasn't 100% sure who I was actually seeing.

I'm satisfied and will be going there from now on.
