Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya authorities cracked down on the sale of vapes near schools, seizing 1.6 million baht worth of products. Led by the Consumer Protection Committee, the operation aims to protect public health, particularly children, from the dangers of nicotine addiction.

The Secretary-General of the Consumer Protection Committee Thosarat Thanitiphan assigned a special operation centre led by the Director of the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) Lertsak Raktham, to act as the Deputy Director of the Special Operations Center, targeting the unregulated sales of electronic cigarettes.

CPB, along with officers, conducted inspections of stores clandestinely selling electronic cigarettes and e-liquids in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. They found such items being sold near schools in Bang Pa-in and Uthai districts for a considerable period.

Consequently, they seized all electronic cigarettes and e-liquids, worth approximately 1.6 million baht, and handed them over to the investigating officers of Bang Pa-in and Uthai police stations for legal proceedings against the sellers.

Thosarat stated that CPB, in conjunction with Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, has consistently carried out law enforcement operations against the illicit sale of electronic cigarettes and e-liquids, aligning with the policies of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and the relevant ministers.

The minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Jiraporn Sinthupiphat assigned the CPB to continue operations against electronic cigarettes due to their unlawful nature and adverse health effects, especially on children and adolescents following the school reopening period.

According to officials, it is necessary to increase law enforcement measures to protect consumers’ health from such hazardous products.

Illegally selling electronic cigarettes and e-liquids is punishable under Consumer Protection Committee Order No. 9/2558, which prohibits the sale or provision of services for electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or e-liquid refills.

Anyone found violating this order is liable to imprisonment for up to three years, a fine of not more than 600,000 baht, or both.

Particularly, during the period when educational institutions are opening for classes, the CPB must ensure the safety of children and adolescents from such hazardous products, reported Daily News.

This is all about money.
Vapes have much less harmful chemicals than cigarettes do. As reported by many studies.

What vaping does to you

You are exposed to toxic chemicals when you vape. These are some of the things you can experience if you vape:

  • irritated mouth and airways
  • persistent coughing
  • feeling out of breath
  • feeling nauseous and vomiting
  • headache and dizziness
  • seizures from inhaling too much nicotine or swallowing e-liquid
  • burns or injury when your vape overheats or explodes
  • becoming dependent on the nicotine in vapes
  • feeling more stressed or anxious
  • breathing problems and permanent lung damage
  • harming your brain development.

Short- and long-term vaping is dangerous to your health.

Let the users decide after all it's their life. I've seen my wifes brothers hit the Lao Khaow when I visit them up north and we have a party. May I ask is that a healthy beverage as it totally wrecks them.

Only near schools or everywhere?? Another witch hunt that will not take longer than a few days, as we see with all crackdowns like black smoke cars, wildfires of leaves, etc.

Maybe you did not get the gist of my post. I know vaping is harmful, it stands to reason if you pump anything into your lungs other than oxygen, then it is not good for you. However, I was referring to the fact that cigarettes are harmful too, but you do not see them banning those, why, because it affects the rich who own the factories, and the Governments who make billions in tax, not just here, but world wide.

If you go to NANA you will see that they no longer sell vapes or liquids outright.  They have pictures, and you can choose if they think you are not police, they can then get it for you.  Something along the lines of what movies and software used to be.

Care to share the source of this research?

I am especially interested in the "long-term vaping is dangerous to your health."

It would be terribly difficult to do that on product that hasn't existed long-term.

I don't think vaping is healthy, but used correctly for the purpose it was created, it can be a very valuable tool.

I smoked for 40 years, just couldn't stop. Stopped smoking and switched to vaping. Vaped only nicotine, no flavours.

Then I stopped vaping without any problems after a few years.

You should be able to vape if you do it so stop smoking and with a doctor's prescription only.

So banning the vape is to protect and take care of children ?  Have the authorities considered banning motor bikes , electric scooters etc for use by children ? Not even a crash helmet needed . If they really cared there would be a good government school education not just a cover up by poorly qualified teachers teaching a low standard curriculum that ends up with education diplomas not worth the paper they are written on . How about the regulation of decent school meals ?

Some might say that it could be that tobacco companies have lobbied the Thai government to ban vapes because of the loss of revenue from tobacco sales . Likewise with cannabis . Top scientists have said that vaping is far less harmful than tobacco but Thailand knows better . I have seen many Thais vaping in the open and police look the other way but look out if you are a foreigner and seen vaping because you represent an easy target for big fines .
