Problem with new TP Link TD-W8980

Just bought a Brand New TP Link TD-W890 Modem Router
I have already set up a TP Link TD854W Modem Router that is working fine

The problem I have is not really setting the Modem/Router up, But that when connected to the Phone line it will not hold the ADSL signal ??

Cannot be anything wrong with the line or Signal as it works fine on the other Router ?? As in once switched on after initial starting up phase it searches, recognises, and holds the ADSL signal, Hmmm but when I plug my new W8980 in it searches (Flashes) but will not hold or connect to the signal

It is all configured correctly, but as I understand it even from new set up before configuration it should recognise the signal and the ADSL light would light up and stay lit ???
Is this a duff Router that needs replacing or ???
Any help appreciated, have a 10 Mb TOT connection and have engineer coming out at some point, but not sure when, as wanted to double check with him before I attempt to replace the equipment

I did indeed, but like I said before, even if I had not got to that stage the ADSL light should connect and be continuous

I have no problem connecting to the Router, its the ADSL connection that wont hold, it holds and works fine on the other Router

You're right that the modem should make the ADSL sync regardless of the settings.

Are you sure that the line is in good condition? I have seen the situation where with a poor ADSL signal, one modem can't connect but another one can albeit at a lower than optimum speed.

Perhaps reconnect the modem that does sync and check the ADSL stats. The sync rate should be 10-20% higher than your package speed.

I did a factory reset before this hence date, but the date was set before

Nothing to solve this in the logs, but can you check what your MTU is. Tot wants (i believe) 1492. You could try lowering it.

Thanks MJCM, had a reply from TP Link saying :

In your case, please try to reset your TD-W8980: http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=496

Then check the ADSL light.

If the ADSL lihgt is on after the reseting, please try to configure it again.

If the ADSL light is still not solid on, which means this modem is fautly. Please contact the retailer who you purchased this from for replacement.

Have done the above so will package it up and send back, fingers crossed the replacement will work straight out of the box, very frustrating, many thanks for your help and input

Oke I hate this when this happens. I had it with a ASUS-DSLN55U (45xx Thb) the Wireless 2.4Ghz refused to work but only the 5Ghz worked.

I am still (4 months on) waiting for a replacement (but already bought a new Tp-Link WD8970)

I bought the 8970 tp-link some months ago and couldnt get it to work with TOT.

According to TP-link and TOT it doesn't work with the Forth equipment TOT uses in their dslams.

Actually, tp-link doesn't have any gigabit adsl router that works with TOT.

At least not when i last asked about one month ago.

Are you happy with it? An acquaintance said the WiFi on his was a bit weak.

Yeah I like it, and I don't have a problem with the wireless. In total I have approx. 8 devices (at the same time) connected to the wireless and they all can access the internet and do their normal stuff. And I only connected 2 of the antenna's, and for the price (2xxx Thb) you can't go wrong.

You could also consider the Asus-DSL N55U but that is around 4xxx Thb, I had one but the 2.4ghz refused to connect and only the 5ghz worked.

Ps: The time is off because the internet was not connected yet and could not sync the time with a Time Server

We had many, many issues with TP-Link DSL gear on many customer installs over the years, albeit with True and 3BB. TP-Link always seemed to have DSL firmware issues; we threw all the TP-Link gear in the trash and have been using Asus on most DSL installs without a single issue.

I would reset the modem; some devices require you to hold the reset button for a long, long time. I would then update the firmware. Finally I would manually re-configure the DSL/WAN interface - remember to save the config, reboot the modem, making sure you've selected that WAN interface as "active"., paying special attention to the username and password - the log posted above looks like username/password error.

Not sure why the OP needs to replace a known, good, working unit (TP-Link TD854W) but guess there must be some reason? Obviously the line is functioning properly, and I suspect the new modem is too, so you're left with a config. issue.

Just thought I would try a new supposedly better modem/router plus the fact can use it as printer server

I did manually reset

I did update firmware

I did put all settings correct

The ADSL light should come on and hold without me doing anything to the equipment

I did follow TP Link support instructions

Returning it for replacement as per their comments

There is a new firmware coming in June,tentatively, which is going to fix it.

They will not make a big deal of it, if one wants to know one has to check the version number.

Seems like MJCM and Slip are among the lucky ones

The connection I have with TOT (the 8970 is my TOT dedicated router and a Dlink is my 3BB dedicated one) is at the moment oke and not causing any disconnections. (online for 10 hours straight already today)

attainable max rate upstream 1236 and download 15592.

Snr Margin upstream 26.6 and downstream 14.8

Line atten upstream 7.9 and downstream 24.4

Errors (both 0)

But I will test the DLink (and I also have a ASUS) with TOT and see what they bring
