PDRC denies trying to illegally overthrow govt

Utthayan (Aksa) Road is covered in trash after the three-day rally by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship ended yesterday.

BANGKOK: -- A leader of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) denied yesterday that the PDRC was trying to unconstitutionally overthrow the caretaker Yingluck Shinawatra administration.

The charge followed a declaration by PDRC secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban that the movement had the sovereign status to seek a royal endorsement to install a new administration.

Thaworn Senneam, a PDRC leader, said yesterday Suthep was referring only to a situation where red-shirt supporters and the government might refuse to accept two Constitutional Court rulings.

These rulings would refer to the legality of Yingluck transferring Thawil Pliensri from the National Security Council (NSC) in 2011, and her possible indictment by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) over alleged dereliction of her duty involving the controversial rice scheme.

Thaworn said the government and its supporters must accept scrutiny and possible punishment by the independent organisations under the Constitution.

He denied the allegation by Pheu Thai Party spokesman Promphong Nopparit that the PDRC was seeking to unlawfully overthrow the government. He said the Civil Court had ruled the PDRC was peacefully exercising its right under the Constitution to demonstrate and urged the Pheu Thai Party not to distort things.

Thaworn was asked by reporters if he was concerned about possible violent confrontations between the PDRC and the red-shirt members of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD). He said the PDRC was not seeking violence and 2,000 PDRC guards would be deployed to ensure peace and non-confrontation with red shirts on the day the Constitutional Court was due to make its ruling.

He also denied that a man arrested by the UDD at its rally site during the weekend was a PDRC guard, adding that the person, identified as Surin Chaithong, probably merely carried a PDRC membership card and had the right to observe the red-shirt protest.

Thaworn was asked what would happen if trouble escalated and the Army intervened. He said [in such an event] there would be no reason to stop the Army from doing its duty if violence broke out repeatedly - although the PDRC was not calling for a military coup.

Meanwhile pro-government demonstration leaders yesterday cut short their intended three-day rally on Aksa Road and sent demonstrators back to their home provinces.

The rally was originally scheduled for three days, ending yesterday evening, but red-shirt (UDD) leader Jatuporn Promphan announced on stage the decision to call off the gathering.

"This is just a rehearsal for the next rally, the venue of which we will keep confidential," he said, boasting that the next event would involve a massive number of supporters.

Jatuporn accepted a challenge by anti-government leader Suthep Thaugsuban to conduct a comparative count on the number of demonstrators for both factions.

Pheu Thai Party spokesperson Prompong Nopparit insisted that Suthep was violating Article 113 of the Criminal Code by inciting unlawful overthrow of the political system, and urged the chiefs of the Armed Forces to take a public stance on the matter.

... and more to the point, the thread is about allegations against the PDRC of trying to overthrow the government; what has the mess that the UDD left behind got to do with the thread?

I was wondering the same... apart that rallies all over the world leave a shitload of trash afterwards.

Hope they provide more rubbish bins at the next rally, that is a disgrace !!!

Just goes to show how much they really care about their country...

Well, not only does the thread begin with a photo of the trashed Red rally site, but the OP ends by discussing it:

Why respect BKK when BKK spits in your face over and over again. Trash it! I get that.

So, because you and the Reds have lost and been utterly humiliated with your failure of a rally, you think it's okay to trash the country and Phutthamonthon. What you've done is trash a religious district under direct royal patronage. What message EXACTLY are you trying to send?

You what? I'm just a farang and I'm not a Red. You don't have to be a Red to despise Suthep. But I think the question you ask is indeed an interesting one...

It was just as bad after PDRC events. Nation Media chose not to run those photos.

Rubbish bins are not an option for security sake. the fear is that they are place to conceal bombs.

But I am sure you have plenty of pictures and you will share them, right?

I don't care if its a UDD rally or a PDRC rally, it's a disgrace...

My reference was to the mess that people find acceptable to leave.

I live in the south and it is just as bad here, cars dumping bags n bags of <deleted> any place they fancy.

Basically, the country needs cleaning up... Pun intended

You should trash your holier than thou hectoring. The same result followed other rallies from PAD years ago, and the recent PDRC.

Have you been to the Democrat stronghold of Phuket? It's a virtual garbage dump with illegal trash dumps, illegal dumping of toxic waste in sensitive zones, garbage everywhere etc. This isn't politics, but a reflection of Thai mentality.

What's up with people like you who latch on to religious specialness and then toss in a reference to Royal patronage for good measure? No religious sites were desecrated. The rally was in a public area, on concrete. The PDRC took over Lumpini park and has destroyed the ecological balance of the place and not a word from you.. Phuket's forests are under Royal protection too. It doesn't stop locals from stealing the land and building on the protected beach areas.

What a pretty picture you paint of Thais and Thailand! (I thought generalized insults directed against Thailand and Thai people in general were prohibited on this board, no?) The "Thai mentality" is to create garbage dumps? Of late, you really seem to have become a bit unbalanced in these posts of yours. Apparently, your usual tactic of baiting other posters is failing, so now you've resorted to a sort of loud squeal against Thais and their institutions as well. Take a deep breath before you stroke out.

Maybe when the UDD were asked if they would kindly make sure they removed their trash from the site, they misunderstood and thought they meant the red shirts... Which is why they got on stage and sent everyone home.

You cant blame the UDD for leaving such a mess. They must have been angry that they lost a days pay when their rally was cut short due to lack of numbers. I am certain that once their leaders changed the rally name from their war drum call to only a rehearsal that their protesters realised that a few hundred baht was not worth relaxing and having fun for songkran.

What happened to the 100,000 trained and armed pro government security force that the UDD claimed to have? They might have been the majority of their protesters and if so, could not take the time to clean up after as they were too busy protecting democracy.

Suthep and his PDRC marchers planning to remove the govt and install a dictatorship recalls Mussolini's 1922 march on Rome in which they took over the govt to rule until 1943.

No need to worry about street litter in the future. Fascists are very tidy.

When you post you should try not to be one-sided. So allow me to add what you didnt. What about the Reds? They are moving all of their people into positions of power to control all aspects of the government. They disregard their own constitution or try to change it secretly so it suits their power hungry party. The disregard laws and go against court rulings. Can you imagine how thailand would be if soneone had not opposed them publicly? Sure it would be a democratic country. The same kind of democracy N. Korea has.

Well they had me fooled. I actually thought they were trying to over throw the government. Didn't realise it was just a few mates getting together for a garden party. Guess now that the misunderstanding is over we can get back to normal.

So the fascist Suthepista's will march on Bangkok and overthrow the beleaguered fascist regime installed by the criminal fugitive wannabee dictator on the back of a flawed election process whereby a large minority translates into an enormous parliamentary majority; even with which the beleaguered fascists still had to cheat and lie and bring the country to the brink.

Well, Mr.Haddock, with your worldviews you must have rejoiced when the fascist Icelanders beat the imperialist British and liberated all your cod brethren, so only they could over fish them for their own enrichment, wink.pngwhistling.gif

But the PDRC clean up after theirs as they are considerate human beings and not red 'trash'!!!

I see from the photo of the mess the reds left behind them that the predictions of a total lack of empathy for the local people were completely correct. The least they could do is clean up their own mess like the PDRC do. I wonder iff they leave their crap all over thewir rice fields in a similar way. Shows a total lack of respect for other people, typical of the reds. Just saying...whistling.gif

This is relavant to the op in a way, the BMA said they removed 108 tons of litter the red rabble left in their wake, but that is small compared to the amount of rubbish that came from Nuttawat and the rest of the 'leaders' mouths over the weekend...
