She actually managed to get the expressing concern bit in for once and then goes and ruins it by specifying protection for the people in economic zones. sad.png

If she is too busy to go to the south then send the man from the Labour Ministry there instead. Of course, he might need a few fortifying drinks first and more than one visit to a happy toilet. smile.png

The only time she was ever south of BKK was when she shops in Singapore.

I have visited HaT Yai and the south for more than 30 years.

I remember many good times and good friends.

However the South changed when Taksin came to power.

There was no southern problem before Taksin.

The problems continue in the South because of this incompetent PTP Taksin government.

There were problems but nowhere as bad as it is now & it must be bad reporting because surely even YL could not be so heartless to state the line about the economic zones although it does seem quite common to express worries about financial losses in the face of impending disaster. Money is so much more important than people.

As the Defence Minister, I would have thought she had a duty to visit the south a little more often to give encouragement and support rather than spending all her time (and public monies) canvassing for votes up north.

Also as the Defence Minister, has she been involved or given suggestions as to just "how" the situation in "the south" might be addressed/managed?

Why worry?

You put Chalerm in charge of solving the problems in the South.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/573741-yingluck-puts-chalerm-in-charge-of-south/

Oh wait...he didn't go.

Yingluck, you have failed you country yet again. Lead, follow...or get out of the way.

When Chalerm was Interior Minister in the administration of PM ' Pig's Nose ' he avoided the south like the plague claiming his life would be in danger and he could do all that was need on video link with security officials in the south.

It came to a head when the PM had to order him to go and he did. Not much chance of YL throwing her weight around like that and in any case as PM and Defence Minister she doesn't set much of an example given how many of her supposed duties she actively body swerves.

Ms Yingluck said she was concerned about the safety of the southern people over the surge in terror attack and have advised the armed forces and the police to take care of the people, especially in economic zones.

She never was one to offer deep insight or wise words of guidance. A voice for the people to be reassured by in troubling times. So what advice does she have?, what words of wisdom from the leader?, what actions will she undertake to see improvement immediately?, what are the reasons for this spike in violence?, what steps will she proceed with in the short to medium term to reduce the violence?, Who has she tasked to oversee the changes?. Is she holding a meeting with caretaker ministers, police chiefs and the army to discuss what actions will be taken? Nothing. She advised the armed forces and the police to take care of the people. WOW! What a leader. Maybe the army and the police were not doing that before. Now she has said this they will start to take care of the people.

She is not one to add to a discussion with advice or guidance. Never has been either.

When she inspected drought affected regions in Mukdahan, on the completion the entourage, the voters, the nation looked and listened to hear what wisdom she could offer. What solutions she may have as the leader of the country. As a response, yingluck encouraged local officials to manage water resources effectively in order to ensure enough supply for the residents. WOW! What a leader. Maybe the local officials were not managing the water resources effectively before. No advice. Just be more effective. She added (this is my favorite pearls of wisdom from yingluck) that she would instruct the Water and Flood Management Commission, the National Economic and Social Development Board and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss with nearby countries about measures to use water from the Mekong River in the most efficient way possible. WOW! What a leader. Use water efficiently. Who would have thought!

I would love to see a journalist with balls ask yingluck the questions that the PTP won't let her face. Not to make yingluck look bad, but because the people in the south are humans that are senselessly dying and are leaving family members behind to suffer from the loss of loved ones and as Thai citizens they deserve to get more than lip service from a woman whose only thoughts are on saving her tail from avoidable misjudgments she made in the past.

Thailand's caretaker PM Yingluck worried by southern bombings
By Digital Content

BANGKOK, April 8 -- Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today expressed worry over the situation in the southern provinces after bomb attacks at eight locations in Yala on two consecutive days, killing one person and wounding 30 others.

Ms Yingluck, as caretaker defence minister, said she has instructed the armed forces chiefs to seek measures to protect the general public as well as economic zones.

She told the agencies concerned to urgently help those who were affected by the Yala bombings.

Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok was assigned to visit the southern provinces soon to inspect the situation.

Meanwhile, caretaker Deputy Defence Minister Yuthasak Sasiprapha sad he would visit Yala soon to follow up the situation.

Gen Yuthasak said that he believed the attacks by insurgent groups in Yala were aimed to challenge the army after the reshuffle of commanders.

In the mid-year army reshuffle, Lt-Gen Walit Rojanapakdi, commander of the 1st Army Corp, was appointed 4th Army Region commander, replacing Lt-Gen Sakol Chuentrakul.

National Security Council Secretary General Paradorn Pattanatabut said the insurgents normally intensified their attacks during April as a symbolic violent attack calling attention to the anniversary of the Krue Se mosque incident.

Lt Gen Paradorn said the change of 4th Army Region commander may have led the insurgents to test the newly appointed chief and test the government policy as well.

The suspended peace talks may be a factor, he added, saying that the unstable political situation has affected attempts to solve the problems in the southern provinces, leading to changes in policy and budget. (MCOT online news)

Well she had no concern over the deaths and regular bombings but now they had upped the ante and are trying to spoil it for the Songkran tourists. So if course she has some concern now.

"worried", "concerned", "compensations"... any leader of a normal country would have, at least, STRONGLY CONDEMNED the violence. And not in Facebook but showing the face on TV.

At least she said protect the people... Now I thought that is what the army and police are meant to do when they are not trying to stop her infighting in Bangkok and causing disturbances for the OTHER people.
