BANGKOK, April 14 – Thailand’s exports of agricultural produce will be promoted vigorously this year to generate more revenue for the country, according to the Commerce Ministry.

Nantawan Sakuntanak, director general of the International Trade Promotion Department, said the department has projected to export fresh, processed, chilled and frozen vegetables and fruit at a total value of US$3.312 billion this year, or a 2 per cent increase from last year.

Canned and processed vegetables and fruit alone will grow at least 2 per cent, by US$2 billion, she said, adding that exports of the products in the first two months of the year reached US$318 million, 8.3 per cent higher year-on-year.

Major markets with increased exports were the Philippines and the Netherlands while exports to Japan have declined.

Ms Nantawan was optimistic about export growth, thanks to the strengthened global economy and the high quality of Thai products.

Thailand is currently the world’s largest exporter of canned vegetables and fruit. (MCOT online news)

More domestic inflation..great.

Has anyone noticed that the price of pork is now around 150 Baht per Kilo, in Thailand? They have problems with a disease in pigs, in North America and pork prices shoot up here. The only bad thing is, they will stay up, after the disease is contained. Some of the joys of the global economy. The rich get richer and the poor have to work harder and still be poor. wai2.gif
