Advice! Quick relaxing getaway for about 4-5 days from BKK on river

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I was wanting some good insight on a nice, quick trip out of BKK for about 4-5 days. I want a little to do, but not a lot of tourist stuff. Just relax..

I was picturing mabe being on some type of floating houses on the river to just chill out, but maybe get into town easy. I love massages ( the real ones ) and home style food, mybe a chang every now and then, maybe fishing if available. Very quiet, not too $.. Maybe I am describing something that isnt reality but just an example.. please help if anyone knows! Please + comments:)

You should head to Kanchanaburi, sounds like it would the right place for you. Accommodation of all prices ranges, and some beautiful place to visit.

Beware Kanchanaburi's main Songkran Day is the 17th April. In the middle of town and around MaeNamKwai Road it will be full on.

All should be back to normal on the 18th. If you can delay your trip until around the Friday 25th April, there will ceremonies held for ANZAC Day. Sorry don't have more details about the schedule on that day.

Kan is nice, been up there a couple times already. Look up a guy named Vinny at IKanKayak for a kayak trip. It's not hard work, it's a pretty easy going float. Probably hotter than hell there now so if there's a full moon, try the night full moon trip. I keep wanting to get back over there and do that. Good luck and hope you have a good trip.

Amphawa is about 2 hours from BKK and plenty of places on the river to stay, has a great river market and night boat trips to see the fireflys. Relaxed and friendly town and not too many farang tourists.

Just be careful with the ones right in town. The floating party boats blast out loud music till the wee hours. Impossible to sleep.

Amphawa or Kanchanaburi?

In Kanchanaburi the party boats did used to come along the Khwae Yai river at the back of guesthouses right in town, but they stopped doing that route a few years ago and now take the Khwae Noi away from the centre of town.

Impossible to sleep.....more chance from the bars that have live bands playing until 2-3am

No party boats in Amphawa mainly Thais on a weekend away boat traffic at night is light and if you get up early you can see the monks rowing the river. It's a peaceful place, hired a long tail for $30 for the day and took the family to All the temples along the river.

Kanchanaburi. We were there some 4-5 years ago. The hotel manager promised it would be quiet. We checked out at dawn, with the boats still pumping out loud music. Ugh.

Glad to hear they stopped. Such a beautiful location ruined by a few people on boats. One had 4-5 people only. That was it.

Yes Boycie is right though, the boats bont go up the river so far now. There are some nice places just off the strip, and on the river at reasonable prices. I personally like Xanadu, but that is out of the town, a great little spot in the river 15 ninures drive from the town near Nong Bua, but a car is advised.
