webfact
UDD Cancels 18 April Rally, Citing Fears of ClashesBy Khaosod EnglishRedshirt demonstrators conduct a ritual to place a curse on Election Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn in Ubon Ratchatani province on 17 April.BANGKOK: -- The United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) has called off the mass rally originally scheduled for 18 April. "The UDD will not organise a mass rally on 18 April, because we need to consider the situation day-to-day," said the UDD spokesman, Mr. Thanawut Wichaidith,"Let me stress that this is not a retreat," he added, "But we will only rally when there is situation, and what we want is an unarmed rally. We don't want to clash with [rival] protesters".The UDD had previously pledged to organise a show of strength to coincide with the scheduled court decision on whether to strip the chairman of the UDD of his bail release.Mr. Jatupon Prompan is facing terrorism charges related to the political unrest in Bangkok in 2010 and has been released on bail.Mr. Thanawut also denounced the recent Facebook post by Mr. Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, the chief Election Commissioner, in which Mr. Somchai said he does not wish to maintain any friendship with the Redshirts as they are "rude" and "aggressive" people."Let it be known that we don't want friendship with Mr. Somchai either," Mr. Thanawut said in a press conference.Meanwhile, Ms. Thida Thawornseth, the chief adviser to the UDD, stressed that the UDD may call a rally at any time, so Redshirt supporters should be ready at all times. She said the UDD will mostly likely choose Aksa Avenue in Nakhon Pathom province as the site of their next rally."I want to inform the Election Commission and all other so-called independent agencies that if they refuse to organise a new election, or if they refuse to exercise justice, the people will not tolerate them anymore," Ms. Thida said, "They will come out and fight for justice".Source: http://en.khaosod.co.th/detail.php?newsid=1397734892§ion=11 -- Khaosod English 2014-04-

lostinsurin
It seems like a very sensible decision to me. At this stage this is no specific reason to hold a rally. That, of course, may very well change when the Constitution Court delivers its decision. If the consequence of that is the removal of the Caretaker PM, then we shall all be able to hazard a more informed opinion about the possibly dwindling support for the UDD. hahahahahaha theres always one ..admit defeat sir.. He.s new,he will learn or then again maybe not,But we all enjoy a bit of sport on here. marcusd
Thida appears to have taken over again. Looks like Jatuporn and Nuttawat are not present, preparing their brown underwear for their court date tomorrow. Or possibly they will be part of the delegation to meet in Hong Kong so were be to busy to attend. They couldn't have done a Ko Tee, not the two heroes who would fight to the last drop of blood. Well the Thai Rouges Laurel and Hardy where noticeable by their absence, if they had a chance to be on a plane to meet The Dear Leader, I am sure they would have taken it. They've never shown any real courage of their convictions, but what to expect from a couple of Thaksins rent-a-boys. I am in pattaya. The boys here rent their ass for 2000 baht an hour. Thaksins mob gets it up the clacker every day for no fee.. Love of the dear leader. Marcusd. Via tapatalk
Torkmada
Well played by the Red Shirts. They have nearly won the final victory in the fight for democracy over dictatorship. An election date is almost set which means the PDRC final days are nigh, then it's goodbye to Suthep, his paid thugs, his geriatric backers and loathsome financiers. Now is not the time to allow any sort of violence to occur and breathe life back into the failed coup. Better to stay home and prepare for the imminent victory party. Well played indeed! Ran out of defense for the PTP and red shirts and in stead of being a man and admitting they were using you. You switch over to attacking the posters who had enough intelligence to see rite through that bunch of thief's and have been trying to help you all the time. Now back to the topic "The UDD will not organise a mass rally on 18 April, because we need to consider the situation day-to-day," said the UDD spokesman, Mr. Thanawut Wichaidith, "Let me stress that this is not a retreat," he added, "But we will only rally when there is situation, and what we want is an unarmed rally. They have put away there Tarot cards and decided that they were being giving false information. They are afraid to start a fight with the opposition. They know they are outnumbered and the anti government supporters won't treat them with the respect they got in 2010. It would defiantly be the end of the red shirts. Does any one know what is going on. The pictures make them look like they were facing a firing squad or even worse the wrath of Thaksin for failing to get him installed as Dictator?

The stuttering parrot
Really both sides can march up and down all they want. When the vote finally comes the PTP will win. It's just a fact and that's what this whole thing is about. How can we dems get power? We'll we are certainly not going to win by a democratic vote so let's try the sutep absolute rule! It's just a fact and that's what this whole thing is about. How can we dems get power? We'll we are certainly not going to win by a democratic vote so let's try the sutep absolute rule! You know deny the vote. "Yes both sides can march up and down the street" - as long as they don't get shoot or have grenades thrown at them as long as they don't have the police force used against then in an unconstitutional attempt to supress their right to peaceful protest have not betrayed their former supporter that much that they can not be bothered to turn up "When the vote finally comes the PTP will win" - You don't know who will win an election until the votes are in the ballot boxes, and the vote has been counted unless you have already stuffed the boxes "Its just a fact and that's what the whole thing is about" if the PTP have predetermined the election why not announce it and save the country the cost of an election"We'll we are certainly not going to win by a democratic vote so let's try sutep absolute rule!" - Interesting admission that the PTP is not going to win by democratic means yes I can see elements of sutep absolute rule - in the way that CAPO has formed a non democratic cabinet to run the country outside the constitution and conventions - such as not using tax pay money and resources for political purposes You know deny the vote - this has me a little confused it could be a reference to either of: Are you talking about a vote that happened 3 years ago and is no longer relevant because the then PM along with the government resigned Are you deigning the reality that if the Feb 3 elections had not bee annulled the PTP would have had only had half the number of votes that they had in the previous election Thank you for clarifying the PTP policy position for me - it has been hard to get that because the former PM is always on holiday or trying to avoid taking legal responsibility for her misconduct. I would have asked the acting-as-if-he-is-caretaker- PM but I am having difficulty finding him sober Edited April 18, 2014 by issanaus
