Set off 10.00 am to get a new driving licence. Have 5 year licence expiring.

Thought it would be a doddle

Traffic Office: Cannot. Must go back to Chiang Mai (where licence was issued)

Why?

No answer

Head honcho: No need but as you have moved Jangwat we need(apart from the usual copies of rubbish):

1.House paper of house owner ie Tabian Ban where you now live

2.House owner present to swear affidavit

2.Rental agreement, notarised...How can you notarise a Chanoot?

3.Marry Paper. Why ?

We own a house. Wife has Tabian Ban. I have yellow book. Why not sufficient? "Married to Farang!"

So we have to drag Mum into immigration to sign paper that ALIEN has been living in her house.

Submit papers.

Please wait

After 1 hour farang a bit miffed. What are they doing?

Wife: Is big queue

Where is it?

Oh passport on desk......No passports on desk and today no Laos either......

In Immigration 3 people polishing their nails

In Traffic Office 10 people busy on their phones

Have to wait a while as Thai boys have to comb hair, adjust pimples, try on jackets before photo taken

15.00 have papers

Happy day! Lucky not have anything else to do

These kinds of experiences set Thailand apart...as one of the most frustrating places on earth for a farang...to get anything done...enjoyed your post...feel your pain...

That isn't soo bad. Bad would be if they let you come 5 times, let you pay bribe and than tell you "can not".

This is maybe a bit difficult but still OK. In my home country you must take 40 hours exercise on the street to get the license (if I recall right) to European prices....

It amazes me how some of you guys live here for years, know exactly or mostly how the system works and still complain and bitch about it. You should know by now that it ain't gonna go smooth or in a flash. Surely

Unless ofcourse your day/life is so boring here that it gives you something to ..........
