Rimmer Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 5 years on, construction on Central Road-Sukhumvit tunnel to begin this year PATTAYA:--Five years after Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome proposed building traffic-bypass tunnels under Sukhumvit Road, construction finally is scheduled to begin later this year.Itthiphol announced April 3 that years of debate and studies are finally over, with the Department of Rural Roads releasing the first funds for the construction that will create three years of construction havoc on the main artery into the city.Drivers dreading the detours may be able to take solace in history, however: It’s not the first time the mayor has said construction was scheduled to start. The mayor previously announced start dates in 2010, 2011 and 2012.The Central-Sukhumvit junction bypass - which calls for four subterranean lanes to be built under the busy intersection to separate through and downtown Pattaya-bound traffic - features a roofed roadway, 1,900 meters long, running from Pornprapanimit Road, under Sukhumvit and ending on Central Road.- See more at: http://www.pattayamail.com/localnews/5-years-on-construction-on-central-road-sukhumvit-tunnel-to-begin-this-year-36818#sthash.Wnr3rOun.dpuf -- Pattaya Mail 2014-04-22
Tokay Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Hopefully it won't take a decade to complete, or completely flood every time it sprinkles.
cup-O-coffee Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Thailand: the HUB of beginnings without end...
joepattaya1961 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Well......it was planned 2 years initially.....now it's 3........will end up at least 5..............recent proofs are the rail-road-bypass: 4 instead of 2 years and of course the one and only Jomtien 2nd road......which lasted 5 instead of 2 years.
soihok Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Will this be constructed by "cut and cover" method or are they actually planning mechanised tunnel boring? If its cut and cover, get ready for some monstrous traffic congestion.
soihok Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 A roofed roadway = cut and cover sounds like its on the cards.

A 3 year traffic jam of epic proportions.
fakename Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 "Encourage to use shortcuts"! I think all shortcuts have been used up and are full, years ago. If there is a shortcut near that area of Sukhumvit, please tell me!
