Pak Gaad Kaao Plii

Featured Replies

Further to my previous post regarding PAK GAAD KAAO, what is the difference between that and PAK GAAD KAAO PLII (or should it be Pak Gaad Kaao Blii?)

Thank you.

ผักกาดขาว
phak gaat kaao
chinese cabbage

I'm guessing that the second one is a misspelling for korean cabbage ผักกาดเกาหลี phak gaat kao lee

Dear Kokesaat,

Thank you for your reply. I don't exactly understand what you mean.

I was asking if PAK GAAD KAAO (ผักกาดขาว) is the same meaning as PAK GAAD KAAO PLII (ผักกาดขาวปล).

Thank you.

ผักกาดขาวปล does not exist. You pronounce the last syllable as plii so you probably mean to write ปลี which means 'banana blossom'. So Chinese banana blossom cabbage maybe? I leave it further to the experts.

Dear Roel,

Thank you for the information on Pak Gaad Kaao Blii.

I will remove it from my list.

Forum Members,

I will be posting all further questions regarding vegetables, etc. on the Thai Food forum. I think that might be better.

Thanks for your help.

ผักกาดขาวปลี and ผักกาดขาว are the same thing.

Dear Kriswillems,

Thank you for the information.

I was told earlier by another forum member (Roel) that there is no such word as ผักกาดขาวปลี and that ปลี actually means 'banana blossom'.

Are you saying that the word ผักกาดขาวปลี is used sometimes (and has the same meaning as ผักกาดขาว)?

I would appreciate your confirmation.

Thanks again.

PS I will be continuing my posts on the Thai Language forum, as I have been told that use of the Thai script is forbidden on all other sites.

yes, both are used and they mean the same thing. You forgot the last vowel, that's probably why he said it doesn't exists.

ปลี occurs in several vegetable names, it means cabbage. Like in กะหล่ำปลี

Don't think there's such a thing "pak kad khao pli"

I have only heard of กะหล่ำปลี kalam pli, which is the regular cabbage

https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/กะหล่ำปลี

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabbage

ผักกาดขาว (which means white cabbage), is the napa cabbage.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napa_cabbage

Mind you that "Chinese cabbage" may mean many different type of cabbages and they'll have different names in Thai.

For example, the Pak choi (wich in Chinese means "white vegetable"), is actually called ผักกวางตุ้ง pak kwang tung, which means "Cantonese vegetable".

Dear Kriswillems,

Thank you for your explanation.

I did not notice that I had left off a vowel and appreciate you pointing it out.

Dear Mole,

Thank you for your reply.

Kriswillems has advised that I had previously left off a vowel in my earlier question to Roel, regarding ผักกาดขาวปลี, resulting in confusion.

He/she also advised that both ผักกาดขาวปลี and ผักกาดขาว are used as descriptions and refer to the same vegetable.

Also, thank you for the other links. I already had them on my list, but if I hadn't, they would be very useful.

Best regards.

Yes, ผักกาดขาวปลี and ผักกาดขาว is the same. It's most of the time just called ผักกาดขาว though.

It's the napa cabbage.

Thanks for that confirmation Mole.

I appreciate it.
