April 25, 201412 yr I have been trying the pre-made, frozen burger patties from several expat oriented stores in Bangkok. So far, they're either spiced up, or they cook down to 1/2 their original weight- depending on which store (which shall remain nameless). Their ground beef doesn't seem a lot better, most of it being too soft and mushy to even make a pattie that will stay together in the pan. Does anyone know where to get a decent burger pattie or ground beef in downtown BKK? Or am I consigned to eating sloppy joes when I DIY at home? Edited April 25, 201412 yr by impulse
April 25, 201412 yr You could go to Makro and purchase some good quality beef and make your own burgers.
April 25, 201412 yr Author Foodland has some decent frozen patties, so does Villa if I'm not mistaken. One of them has spiced patties and the other's patties cook down to coin sized burgers. I'm not going to say which is which for fear of a defamation suit (since some people would like spiced patties- I don't) I haven't tried Makro beef because there's no Makro nearby. I'll have to look for one and give them a try.
April 26, 201412 yr Villa has the best one, check the weight they are the same as those who appear larger. They seem smaller but are thicker.
April 26, 201412 yr You could go to Makro and purchase some good quality beef and make your own burgers. I buy frozen Australian ground beef at Makro. The TG defrosts, makes them into patties and freezes them. I've found no better.
April 26, 201412 yr I understand why people buy them. But they always have tasted synthetic to me. Even the quality U.S. brands. Home made is the only way to go.
April 27, 201412 yr Villa has the best one, check the weight they are the same as those who appear larger. They seem smaller but are thicker. I often buy the Villa patties - the thicker ones - but before grilling or frying them I gently compress them, making them perhaps 15% bigger in diameter and a little thinner. During cooking they will shrink - as all patties do - but they end up just about the right size to fit the bun! Patrick
April 28, 201412 yr I have tried all of them, villa market, foodland, tops and they were all horrible. The meatdepartment at the Makro is also disguisting, open tables full of chickenlimbs and everybody touching them. It also smells and doesn't look clean so i won't buy meat there. Better make them yourself. pepper, salt, nutmeg, grated onion, egg, bread and minced meat.
