BANGKOK: -- The labour union of Thai Airways International has threatened to stage a protest if Mr Amphon Kitti-amphon, the former board chairman, is reappointed a board member at a general meeting of the company on Tuesday.

THAI labour union president Mr Damrong Waikanee said today (Monday) that the union would propose the Finance Ministry, THAI’s biggest shareholder, not to reappoint Mr Amphon, secretary-general of the cabinet, as a board member otherwise internal conflict in the national flag carrier would have slim chance of being resolved.

He claimed that the morale of the staff under Mr Amphon’s chairmanship was very low because of the widespread practice of nepotism and cronyism.

He added that the union would also ask the board to pay the one million baht in compensation on behalf of the company to THAI former president Piyasvasti Amranand for unfair termination of his employment contract as ordered by the Central Labour Court because it was the board that was responsible for Piyasvasti’s sacking.

Besides Mr Amphon, two other board members whose terms have expired are expected to be reappointed. They are Mr Thirasak Suwanyos, former managing director of Islamic Bank, and Mr Sutham Sirithipsakorn, a businessman.

Two new members who are to replace outgoing board members Mr Sorachak Kasemsuwan and Mr Chutinan Bhirompakdi are Finance Permanent Secretary Rangsan Srivorasart and Air Marshal Sivakiat Chayaema, an air force specialist.

The Union are aware that the nepotism and cronyism, the jobs for the boys and girls who support us scheme, is unlikely to provide executives and non executives who can run the company properly.

The former chairman being re-appointed to the board? Pure gravy train mentality. But, he's one of the boys.

Welcome to the land of the Shins. For the guys who didn't know yet, Thaksin needs to control all corners of Thailand by putting his guys in all major positions regardless of their qualifications.

THAI, as the national carrier, and clearly crumbling from within, represents the very essence of what is wrong with the higher echelons of Thai society today...!

Sell it to Air Asia .

Doubt they would want it. Just one reason is that Dr. Tony is pretty clever at building a productive corporate culture. Why would they take on

thousands of staff who are arrogant and just lazy.

What do they mean? Nepotism and cronyism by board members means fewer free seats for the union members' relatives and friends?

If you have no idea what the issue is please stop trolling. Do some research and you could also make a mature comment.

Have you got evidence of your claim ? Otherwise, your words sound like defamation and violate Thai law !

Ignore him. He's just trolling in an effort to deflect criticism of his PTP heroes.

Chances are someone will manage to introduce Suthep into this thread.

Well the Thai labour union welcomed Suthep a few days ago....so indeed it is a political topic.
